Sixersfan594 247
Le'Sean Coutzen: An Autobiography Born in a small town, in a small country, dreams and aspirations were generally a long shot. The big sports leagues were not scouting down in the small country of Israel, they were busy in the North American countries. So when Coutzen took up hockey he knew it would be a challenge to even make it out of his home country. Le'Sean, now a 76 inch monster only weighs 205 pounds, an issue he will have to deal with later. He currently plays for the Bratislava Watchmen of the VHLm -- the minor leagues for the VHL. He hopes to become one of the names on the big board that teams stalk and see if they will be able to nab him and add him to their collection. Le'Sean was not always the best of the bunch, his upbringing is a story that can inspire many that anything is possible. The Early Years Le'Sean had to overcome many deficiencies to become who he is today. He could not learn how to walk until he was four years old. He could not speak until he was five, and he was partially blind in his right eye until the age of seven. As soon as his mother heard that her soon could see she spent a lot of time making her soon try new sports. Le'Sean first tried soccer, but for he was afraid to use his head to clear the ball. After that he tried to take up Basketball but his uncoordinated left hand did not allow him to be successful. Lastly, his mom tried putting Le'Sean on the ice. It was almost like love at first sight, although his feet were lagging behind his skill level, Le'Sean made the other kids look foolish and turned the heads of many parents in northern Israel. The Teen Years After turning thirteen Le'Sean decided to enroll into a hockey academy in England, where he would learn how to speak English and explore European and American cultures. Coutzen wanted to ensure that he would be able to learn about as many cultures as possible, and felt England was the best choice. In the beginning of his stay in England Le'Sean struggled to make friends or keep his grades up. In turn he became an outcast at the academy and shifted himself out after he learned enough English. He moved to Canada to enroll in the OHL (Ontario Hockey League). The (Almost) Present In the OHL, Le'Sean was able to showcase his true talent to the scouts of the VHL. His lanky frame -- the at the time 74 inch frame provided a lot of potential for teams to develop. As he approached the age of 19 he began to get more followers and fans. Before games he would sign autographs as well as perform interviews. Coutzen learned how to deal with the media as well as people who adore him. Le'Sean learned to love the game not just because it is hockey -- but because he is playing it for the fans as well. Pro's And Con's Le'Sean Coutzen is known for his frame and how he uses it. He is an extremely advanced puck protector and the way he cycles the puck is almost unheard of. Being a very tall person for a long time has its advantages for him. Another good thing about his advantage is that he is able to defend more efficiently. His stick can reach out almost three inches farther in each direction than the normal VHL player making it so much harder to get past this elite defender. The next thing that Le'Sean is known for being good at is his elite defending. As a center, Le'Sean always believed that it his duty to lead the forwards in the defensive zone. Watching tape of Coutzen, it is very evident to see how he hustles every play to ensure that his team lowers the risk of conceding a goal. Coutzen's last elite quality is his vision and pass making ability. Coutzen can read a play almost as if it had already occurred. When Le'Sean enters the zone he is not looking for a play that can get a shot on goal, he is looking for a play that will create a goal. He thinks two to three passes ahead. Instead of wrapping it in behind the net and cycling it, he may just drop it behind and set himself up for a quick shot. Also, that elite play making ability allows him to be a great defender. The outlet passes he dishes to his wingers allow them to sustain the momentum they have and make sure that the puck is out of the zone as soon as possible. Despite all of the great things about Coutzen, he has a very apparent Achilles heal -- Acceleration. Despite a tremendous top speed, Coutzen can rarely reach it because it takes him a long time. On the ice there is only so much time to generate speed and maintain it. His lackluster acceleration often time results in odd-man rushes that were nullified as well as open shots in key areas for the opposing team. Le'Sean has been working on it, but despite having a tremendous top speed and quick feet he has to continue to adjust. Also, Coutzen is not the most efficient finisher. He is not clinical in any sense of the word but he believes it has to do with pure strength. When he shoots the puck it is often like a pass since he loves passing the puck. His shots are very accurate but weak at the same time. Many goalies stop his shots early and can track it very well. Coutzen needs to work on his release to fool the goalies so they have less time to react. Lastly, Coutzen does not use stick handle very well. It is not very evident because often times he can make a great pass to get out of a situation so despite this weakness, he can avoid it. His stick handling ability has probably deteriorated in the OHL because it was safer to make a pass than stick handle through a couple opponents. Overview Despite all of the hardships, Coutzen was able to overcome many issues in life. He overcame the odds and is now being looked at as a top prospect for the VHLm draft. He should continue to grow into his 76 inch tall frame and is now looking forward to hearing his name called in late May to early June. 1100 words Edited May 1, 2015 by Taron47 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/19666-claimedlesean-coutzen-rp-final-88/ Share on other sites
