Name: Marcel Faux
Height: 6’2
Weight: 200 lbs
Hometown: Laval, Quebec (Montreal)
Position: Left Wing
Team: Saskatoon Wild, VHLM

Overview

Marcel Faux is a Quebec born player who played the majority of his hockey in his home province of Quebec. Faux has good size at six foot two but really he is six foot one and a half inches but he likes to round it up. He began playing hockey in Quebec’s minor hockey system then played in their Midget AAA league. From there he played in the Quebec Junior A Hockey League. In his grade twelve year he had a few NCAA scholarship offers from low end division one programs but he decided he was not interested in leaving home. After moving to Ontario he spent a few years in the Ontario Junior hockey system before declaring eligible for the S43 VHLM Entry Draft.

Pros

Scoring: Faux has an eye for the back of the net. His release is deadly and consistently finds a way into the net. Marcel has always been able to find the back of the net whether it’s from his own shot or getting to the front of the net for a tip. Faux has a natural ability to turn the goal light on and it is his best asset right now and In the future.

Skating: His skating ability allows him to score many of his goals. Marcel has always been an amazing skater with a long stride that looks effortless. He is able to beat defenders wide to get the puck to the net and use his speed to his advantage. Faux can change a game by using his speed and stride to create chances and goals for his team at any given moment.

Puck Handling: Marcel Faux is excellent at handling the puck. He is able to use his combination of speed and puck handling to get away from defenders and hold onto possession of the puck. He can make plays with the puck in tight spaces by using toe drags or simply putting the puck through the defenders feet. This ability to hold onto the puck and handle it also allows Faux to create many of the goals he scores. His puck handling leaves his opponents wondering what just happened.

Cons

Tunnel Vision: Marcel Faux is known for his tunnel vision with the puck. He focuses on the net and does not see the rest of the offensive zone to pick out a better play. He focuses so much on the net when he has the puck on his stick it is one of the major flaws in his game. In his junior hockey days Faux was benched many times for going for the goal instead of looking for a better option in the offensive zone. This has led to questions of his hockey smarts and teamwork which are valid concerns.

Defense: Faux is the opposite of a 200 foot player at this time. Faux is known for his lack of back check and floating into the defensive zone. He is also prone to losing his man on coverage in front of the net and on the point. His lack of defensive awareness is concerning and needs to be addressed as soon as possible if he wants to become a star VHL player.

Strength: Marcel Faux is rather lanky and has not built up much muscle yet. His lack of strength is evident when he battles for the loose pucks in the corners or in the defensive zone. His lack of strength causes countless turnovers and losing battles for the puck. Faux has the speed to be a dominate player but does not use his size and his lack of strength is evident when going wide to beat defenders. He depends on his speed which will not work all the time. He needs to be more committed to the gym to gain strength to help him in the future. His weak plays in the corner leaves his coaches frustrated and wondering if he has the will to compete.

Future

Marcel Faux projects to be a good VHL left winger in the future with lots of potential to grow. He has a lot of work to do in many aspects of his game. If he works hard on his flaws and continues to grow he could become an all-star in the VHL. Right now it is hard to project Faux as he’s been very inconsistent in the past and needs to start producing in the VHLM.
