Kyanon Pots Two Goals in Win over Watchmen

www.VHLHockeynews.com

A few games was all it took it seems for Kyanon to pick up the pace in the VHLM. The Brampton Blades cruised to a 5-0 shutout of the Brastislava Watchmen the other night and Kyanon had one of his best performances since coming from overseas Japan. The first of three points on the night for Kyanon came on a smooth transition out of the defensive zone as Thaddeus Humbert miss played a cross pass on the penalty kill that Kyanon intercepted and flipped neatly to Teibert who sent a streaking Phil Hamilton on the opposite side on a breakaway where he slipped it through Blind’s five hole for the goal.

Kyanon’s first goal of the season came near the end of the first period also on a powerplay. A missed shot by Tiebert caromed off the far side of the boards where Kyanon stepped up and corralled the loose puck. As Michael Clardy came out to challenge him, he deftly sidestepped him and slid into the high slot where he whipped a wrist shot clean above the blocker of David Blind for his first tally of the season.

Showing his prowess on the power play, it came as no surprise when Kyanon was at the center of another power play goal that night in the 2nd period. A shot from Phil Hamilton originally was blocked by Dupont, but he was unable to clear the puck. Kyanon pounced on loose puck and corralled it for a hard slapshot that beat David Blind just between the glove and pads.

That game he also showed signs of adapting his defensive game as well as he recorded one blocked shot and interrupted several chances at scoring chances by the Watchmen. Post game, his coach had a few things to say about him,

“I thought Kyanon had his best game on VHLM ice since he has arrived. I definitely is very creative on the power play and loves to have the puck on his stick. He certainly brings a different dynamic to our power play which has been struggling as of late but it certainly was on point today. The thing about Kyanon is that he isn’t just about being a hard shot, he likes to change up things and he can beat you with dekes, wrist shots or just fire a laser from the line. It keeps goalies guessing since most of our other defensemen are stronger on the defensive side of the puck whereas Kyanon here is very similar to Salvador from our team last year where he gave a different element to our offensive zone. His defensive game though still is a work in progress, I think he is certainly improving on that aspect and we are closely monitoring his match ups and practices. It’s great when you have a guy like Jedtsson there teaching him the ropes. He also has a better idea and feel for Kyanon’s game and they like each other so its working out to be a good pairing for us.” – Brampton assistant coach, Jeff Blashill
