Ron Dayne III at the press conference to detail Reencarnacion's future plans.

Ever since he first declared for it back at the Season 42 trade deadline, Dominican left winger Edwin Reencarnacion had been considered the top prospect for the Season 44 Draft. In turn, many had made what would be the obvious assumption that Reencarnacion would be selected with the first overall selection. In fact, the only reason to think otherwise was that the Americans could have taken defenseman Kerkko Hyvarinen to address the weakness on the blue line, but thanks to the progression of Season 43 second round selection Golden Jedtsson, it looks as though those issues have ironed themselves out. However, after a recent press conference with Reencarnacion’s agent Ron Dayne III closed, journalists and fans alike were left with doubts over Reencarnacion’s first overall selection projection. In the press conference, Dayne detailed the plans that Reencarnacion had set out for his career.

“I’ve been in constant conversation with my client over the past season and he’s made it clear that he would like to play for all of the teams that he didn’t get a chance to play for in his original run in the VHL. As you are all well aware, I’m typically one to convince clients that staying with the team that drafted them is the best policy. However, my client and I agree that, having already played for five teams in his previous VHL stint, that there is a great opportunity for him to broaden his horizons and make an impact for every VHL franchise. How myself and my client will go about achieving this goal is not yet decided. However, regardless of whether my client has previously played for the team he is drafted by or not, we will accept the three season contract offered by the team Edwin is drafted to and we will work from there.”

This is likely not going to go down too well in New York, whose comments in other articles had led people to believe they were going to lock up Reencarnacion for the entirety of what will likely be an eight season career. When asked if there was anything that would alter Reencarnacion’s career plans though, Dayne did give a small glimmer of hope to the Americans that perhaps they could hold on to Reencarnacion.

“Right now, we aren’t going to all-in on the five team career plan, because a lot can happen over the course of a player’s career. Situations could arise where a plan of that nature would not become feasible or would clash with other aspirations my client may have. Hey, maybe my client does end up staying with New York for his entire career, should he be drafted there of course. Right now though, the plan is to accept the three year contract given to us by the team that drafts Edwin and work from there.”

The Seattle Bears GM job was once again brought up

Another rumour that had been going around was that Ron Dayne III was set to become general manager of the Seattle Bears, so per the VHL rules, Reencarnacion would be contracted to his agent’s team until either he retired or Dayne stepped down from the role. Dayne had originally been offered the role back in Season 42, at a time when it looked like then general manager Brady Stropko was going to be fired from his duties for failing to offer rookies professional deals. However, the league’s commissioners changed their plans and Stropko remained in the role after a massive display of support within the Bears franchise.  Now with Stropko no longer managing the Bears, Dayne feels he may have once again missed out on the role, despite a show of public support from Da Trifecta, Niklaus Mikaelson’s agent, on VHL Radio.

“While I’ve been led to believe that my name has been considered for the role, I’m of the belief that, considering how far along we are in the off-season process, I will likely not be joining the Bears as their new General Manager. If I was set to take the role, I imagine that I would have heard something by now from the league’s commissioners. I presume that either Mitch Higgins is staying on or another candidate with more history with the Bears franchise has got the role ahead of me, but like I say, I’ve heard nothing regarding the role. On the off chance that I have in fact gotten the job though, my client has made it clear he has absolutely no problem staying with the Bears franchise for as long as I would be there.”
