Thaddeus Humbert

Age: 22

Height: 5'9

Weight: 190lb

Jersey #: 29

Born: Breda, North Brabant, Netherlands

Teams: Bratislava Watchmen (VHLM), Cologne Express (VHL)

Thaddues Humbert joined the VHLM through waivers in Season 43. A highly touted prospect coming from the Netherlands Humbert believed himself to be royalty over most in the VHLM. Season 43 featured a VHLM loaded with top heavy prospects at all positions. It is because of this that Humbert appeared to get lost in the shuffle. Humbert was claimed off waivers by the Bratislava Watchmen, a team who underwent a GM change midway through the season. The Watchmen had a solid roster and were looking to make a push for the Founders Cup.

In the regular season Humbert exhibited a solid, if flawed version of the game he was projected to bring to the table. While 53 points, including 43 assists is in line with the type of puck moving play expected out of Thaddues, the 64 penalty minutes during the season represented signs of some early frustration for the young defender. A player who was supposed to be known for his poise, and his ability to stay on the ice found himself in the box on multiple occasions. Speaking to reporters Humbert claimed that the referee's in the VHLM had it in for him. The majority of his infractions were related to stick penalties, hooking, tripping, slashing. While the coaching staff urged Humbert to work through it, his frustration got the better of him on several occasions, resulting him being penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct as he complained to the officials.

Despite this however Humbert first and only VHLM season will be known as a decent one. With 108 hits, a physical game that most thought would be lacking. But as the games got more intense Humbert would go for bigger hits, attempting in some way to put his stamp on the game. Combined with 66 shots blocks on the year Humberts season wasn't a total waste.

Heading into the playoffs the Watchmen were confident they could make some noise. After a first round sweep against the Moscow Red Wolves the Watchmen headed into their series with the favorite Bern Royals on fire. However Bratislava would lose in six games to the eventual Founders Cup winning Royals. Humberts performance was near the top of the team, as he contributed 14 points in 10 games. His penalty minutes were way down, a meager 4 in the games played and while his hitting game showed more patience with 16 hits, his shot blocking picked up as he posted 15 in 10 games. Probably the most critical aspect of the playoffs for Humbert proving he could carry the minutes for a team, per his scouting report. He lead the Watchmen in minutes played and average minutes per game with 308 and 30.84 respectively.

Since the end of the playoffs Humbert has been hitting the gym, bulking up, and already beginning his off season training. Despite being drafted by the Olso Storm in the second round of the Season 44 VHLM draft, Humbert has been called up by his personal player agent and GM of the Cologne Express to play in the VHL this upcoming season. While Humbert had a battled tested Season 33 leading into good results in the playoffs, he'll be facing the stiffest competition in the world in the VHL. The test for him now will be to see how far he can bend without breaking as this rookie will most likely be overwhelmed by play in the big leagues.

Strengths

Smooth Puck Mover

One of the attributes highly touted at Humbert from his play in Europe was how smooth of a skater he was, and how he was a great option to lead his team on the rush. Humbert exhibited that skill ten fold in his VHLM campaign. Despite being a first outlet to get his team in the zone Humbert also used his skating to avoid opposing physical contact.

Elite Passing Potential

Despite possessing a solid wrist shot, Humberts offensive game is that of a pure passer. Finding the lanes and teammates going to the net, or in deadly positions was a strength of his in the VHLM campaign. Of his 67 points in both the regular season and playoffs, 56 of them were assists. The potential for Humbert to become an elite passer in the VHL is high.

Adaptable and Durable

Through his VHLM campaign Thaddeus proved that he was both durable and adaptable. Despite getting frustrated due to a nick in his game with penalty minutes, Humbert was willing to lay on the body and make his impact a different way. As he continued to gain his composure and log more minutes for his club, he showed no signs of wearing either. His stamina and ability to be calm under pressure will be a big factor for him in the VHL.

Weaknesses

Goal Scoring

While occasionally able to land a nice wrist shot from the point, Humberts goal scoring abilities are otherwise lacking. The majority of his creative prowess is focused on skating and passing, and thus don't expect him to light the lamp all that much. The inability to round out his game in that way could prove to be a hard edge in the otherwise round game of this young defender.

Attitude

When things don't go his way Humbert has shown a serious disregard for the rules. Whether that complaining to the referee's, or attempting to take it out on opposing teammates. There is no denying Thaddues has a superiority complex given his ties to royalty. This aspect can affect him on the ice, and make him a liability.

Physical Play

Humbert has shown that he can deliver the big hits if motivated to. However he shouldn't be relied upon to be the top hitting defender in the league anytime soon. As he gains confidence look for a consistent, but somewhat lacking physical presence from Thaddues.

Overview: 2/2 - Good in this regard, height weight etc. are all listed. Good job.

Pros & Cons: 3/3 - I like how you brought your player to life citing attitude as an issue for him. Also good job showing that he is a pass-first kind of guy. Lastly, good job hitting the word count!

Grammar: 2/2 - Good job grammatically, nothing to stand out or diminish from the rookie profile.

Presentation: 1/1 - Good, I like the coloring which went along with the team color at the top (as in Cologne, and Bratislava).

Overall: 8/8
