Ariel Weinstein came to the VHLM via the waiver wire in season forty-three. Joining during the trade deadline week allowed Weinstein to get some game action under his belt before heading into the VHLM Dispersal Draft this past off-season. Weinstein was welcomed with open arms to the Ottawa Lynx organization, but unfortunately the fun with the club only lasted a few days before he found himself riding the bench. Fellow goal-tending prospect Greg Clegane was brought into the fold in Ottawa, which led to Weinstein riding the pine for the remainder of the season. Weinstein put on a brave face each day he came to the rink, even encouraging teammates and giving advice when needed, but deep down inside Weinstein was dying to hit the ice once again. After Weinstein and the Lynx were eliminated from the VHLM playoffs, Weinstein switched his focus to improving his game heading into his first professional hockey league draft. The native of Tel Aviv Israel was selected by the Saskatoon Wild in the season forty-four VHLM Dispersal Draft where the young goalie will start off his rookie season.

Pros:

Rebound Control- Rebounds happen when your a young goaltender in the VHLM, but it all comes down to where those rebounds end up off a goalies body. Ariel Weinstein does a great job with his rebound control early on in his hockey career. When a rebound does come off his body, Weinstein does a great job off sending the puck to the corner. When Weinstein is on his game, rebounds are the least of his worries in the blue paint.

Hand Speed- One reason that Weinstein is so good at his rebound control would have to be his great glove hand. Shooting low or high on Weinsteins' glove side is always a bad idea for opposing players as his glove seems to always be in the right position to make a stellar save. Looking like a shortstop from time to time in the blue paint with his glove saves, Weinstein uses his right side to his advantage.

Style- Weinstein has great position and that is shown by his great style he possess in net. Weinstein finds himself in great position and pushes off well when going to challenge a shot from an opposing player, giving himself a great chance each night to pull off a great save. Although he has not a lick of style off the ice, Weinstein can sure bring style with his game on the ice.

Cons:

Experience- Weinstein lacks key experience on a hockey rink as he started playing the game later in life. After growing up in Israel, which isn't a hockey hot bed, Weinstein moved to Canada to pursue a better education and fell in love with the game of hockey at the same time. When Weinstein declared for the VHLM last season at the trade deadline, it was the first time he was suiting up for a professional hockey club. With each season Weinstein should gain more confidence and experience, but right now in his rookie season he is extremely raw.

Skating- When you think of goaltenders you likely don't think that skating is a big part of their game, but without a good skating goalie dump ins can become problematic. Weinstein skates much like Hal Gill did when he logged minutes in the NHL, looking like a baby deer when he exits his crease to hunt down a puck. Weinstein needs to work on this area of this game to help out his defenders when the opposing club tries to dump and chase.

Agility- Now we already stated that Weinstein had great style, but not very often can the young goalie make the incredible save going post to post. Weinstein becomes still in the net and can be easily beat by a cross ice pass, but has been working hard to have better vision which will lead to better agility. This part of his game must become better if he wishes to succeed at the next level.
