Stockholm Vikings host party for fans

 

In an effort to connect with their fans, the Stockholm Vikings recently welcomed fans to a day of gaming. Taking a break from hockey, there were a variety of activities for all to enjoy with their favorite players. The featured event for the night was a Looney Tunes B-Ball tournament between the Vikings. The night was considered a huge success, despite being crashed by three players from another VHL team and having two Vikings leave early.

 

The Vikings were scattered throughout the venue for most of the day, meeting as many fans as they could. Team captain Lloyd Light, who coordinated the event, found himself playing board games for the majority of the time. Trying to get involved as much as possible, he had several games going on at once. The outspoken Jody 3 Moons could be found by the video game setups drinking Mountain Dew, eating Doritos, and "[MLG] 360 no-scoping noobs" in Call of Duty. Fans of all ages were welcomed, and the Vikings even had a face-painting booth set up for the kids to enjoy. It was run, of course, by Lord Karnage, who demonstrated his incredible artistic abilities, much to the surprise of the fans.

Periodically, the players had to take breaks from all of that to play in the Looney Tunes B-Ball tournament. The game, played on the Super Nintendo, features eight characters from the Looney Tunes franchise. Eight of the Vikings participated in the tournament, playing as pairs. Light, playing as Marvin the Martian, was paired with goaltender Blake Campbell as Sylvester. They played in the first match against sophomores Severin von Karma and Francis York Morgan, playing as Elmer Fudd and Wile E. Coyote, respectively. Karnage and 3 Moons were another pair; taking a break from being offensive superstars, they chose to go with two of the better defensive players in the Tasmanian Devil (Karnage) and Daffy Duck (3 Moons). The final twosome competing was Tom Slaughter and Prince Gigga-Bijou. Fittingly, Slaughter was playing as arguably the best character in the game, Yosemite Sam. Gigga-Bijou joined him as Bugs Bunny.

 

The fans had a blast watching the tournament and cheering for their favorites. In the first game, Slaughter and Gigga-Bijou won in convincing fashion. Karnage and 3 Moons played too hard on defense, giving up several easy shots and were unable to score much for themselves, with Slaughter's Yosemite Sam proving to be the best defender of the game. Light and Campbell were lucky in a comeback effort against Karma and York, as they scored 18 points on just two three-pointers late in the third quarter thanks to the Vegas ability. Light and Campbell were no match for Slaughter and Gigga-Bijou, however. In the losers bracket, 3 Moons and Karnage had an easier time despite a 58-point effort from von Karma's Elmer Fudd. They followed up that victory with another, eliminating Light and Campbell from the tournament by a single point. Needing to win two straight games to win the tournament, there was no exciting finish to be had as Slaughter and Gigga-Bijou finished the tournament undefeated.

 

Tom Slaughter, as the well-rounded Yosemite Sam, was named the most outstanding player.

 

Not all of the Vikings had a wonderful time at the party, however. Joseph Roy III and rookie Sam Teibert did little to interact with the fans. The two of them had chosen not to play in the B-Ball tournament and spent several hours standing in various corners. They left early, but no one seemed to mind. Around the time that they left, the fans were treated to a surprise, as three Seattle players showed up. The Bears were in Stockholm for a game that weekend, and the trio of James Faraday, Brady Stropko, and King Czar III thought it would be fun to crash the Vikings event. The Vikings welcomed them to stay and have a good time, though it wasn't long before they got themselves kicked out. Faraday caused a scene when he questioned Karnage's integrity during a game of Go Fish. Stropko and Czar, meanwhile, were creeping out the guests by doing nothing but standing in the corners, just the same as Roy and Teibert.

 

For the fans, it was a great night to hang out with the players and see them as just regular guys. The players felt great about giving some time to the fans who support them. Despite some odd behavior, absolutely nothing went wrong. Everyone had a good time and left with a smile and some souvenirs.
