DollarAndADream 3,356
Full Name: Zach ParechkinPosition: LWAge: 18Handedness: RJersey Number: 23Height (inches): 6'3"Weight (lbs.): 215lbsBirthplace: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada Background: Zach Parechkin was born in Canada in a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia. This city is one in which many hockey enthusiasts hail from like Joe Sakic or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and it is named the city of Burnaby. He was born with the full name Zachary to loving parents Evgeni and Hayley Parechkin. His father Evgeni was living in Moscow, Russia during the time that he met Zach's mother Hayley, and when they met, things just clicked. Hayley went to Moscow to travel after college, and after she left and went back home to Burnaby. While Hayley and Evgeni were apart, they kept in contact and eventually, Evgeni wound up moving to Canada to pursue Hayley as well as his career in physiotherapy. The end of that story is obvious, and finishes with the two of them getting married and having a son named Zach. Evgeni was a man who was always into hockey growing up in Russia, so what he wanted most was for his son Zach to play the sport and love it. You see, Evgeni was a hockey player through school, but he suffered a knee injury which needed surgery, and that ended his dreams of ever becoming a hockey star. Zach was shown clips of old hockey games by his father, including the Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union. Zach was hooked not only by that, but he became an instant Canucks fan during the era of the West Coast Express. Many Canucks fans will remember the huge talents by the line of Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi, and Brendan Morrison. Zach Parechkin was a gigantic fan of Naslund, and has tried to sharpen his game accordingly. ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ The Minors: The hockey career of Zach began at the minor level within the Burnaby Winter Club. In the minors, he was always touted as one of the best on the ice, and you could see it clear as day when you watched him. The way he would dipsey-doodle his way through skaters and roof it with ease was a sight to watch. Compared to the skills of the other kids on the ice, you could just tell that Zach was something different. He had different strides to his skating than the others, almost on a professional level. You can probably tell where this is going, as he led his team to a provincial championship with the Burnaby squad. He also played in the Western Canada Bantam Championships and led his team to a championship there as well, scoring at least a goal in each and every game. On top of that, he went on to play AAA midget hockey, but there was no championship for him there. ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- Juniors: Parechkin was drafted to the WHL's Vancouver Giants, a team very close to home. Since the Pacific Coliseum is only a 10 minute drive from his home, this made things perfect in order to stay close to family and remain motivated as well. With the Vancouver Giants, Zach Parechkin scored 42 goals and added 23 assists in his first season there. This added up to 65 points in the 64 games that he played. Although, he did not manage to win the Memorial Cup in his first season, but still scored 4 goals in their 5 game defeat. In his second season, Parechkin upped his goal production and on to score 72 goals along with 44 assists, adding up to a sum of 116 points. Scoring at a pace for goals at that rate is amazing at the WHL level, and his team got better that season as a whole that season also, which helped. In the playoffs, Zach went on to win the Memorial Cup with Vancouver while being named the MVP of the tournament, and received other accolades to boot. Despite his great goal and assist totals, some analysts wondered whether this was all in the skill-set of Parechkin, or if it was a result of a great team. One might bring up the fact that a player like Dane Fox played alongside Connor McDavid and scored 64 goals and 43 assists in the OHL. As far as that question goes, Zach Parechkin was aiming to prove the doubters wrong. The NHL Draft: It was only a matter of time before the world began to notice the star-studded talents of Zach Parechkin. Throughout his hockey career, scouts began to take notice of him and while he was not exactly the Sidney Crosby of the next generation, he was definitely something to go after. While the draft was edging closer and closer, Zach began to receive phone calls from a plethora of NHL organizations. While it was a question of whether he would be chosen in the Top 10, everybody was well aware of his potential to be a 1st Round pick. Scouts took notice of his thrilling performance at the NHL Draft Combine, and additionally his humble personality in front of the media. While he was never a captain of his teams, his leadership qualities were crystal clear. In the 1st Round of the NHL Entry Draft, Zach Parechkin was taken 22nd overall to the San Jose Sharks. This is a solid position in the NHL Draft, and the statement that he was even a 1st Round Pick to the NHL was exhilarating to him. Although he was stoked to be noticed at the grand scale that he was, Zach had other plans. ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- VHL or NHL? Almost every single hockey player, no matter where you are in thew world dreams of becoming a player in the National Hockey League. Everybody dreams of lifting that Stanley Cup, but Parechkin frequently heard rumbles of from another organization. This is where Parechkin had to make a bold move: does he go on to play for the San Jose Sharks in the NHL, or make the jump in the VHL Minors and set his sights for the Continental Cup? After talking it over with friends, family, and his connections within his hockey organizations, Zachary Parechkin made the decision to venture over to the VHLM.
