Tagger 2,722
Slaughter Excluded From S44 Super Cup Many were expecting two-time Super Cup winner Tom Slaughter to be a first round selection in the upcoming Super Cup Draft, however that will not be the case as the Stockholm Vikings center has been excluded from the list of available prospects in the draft. The rules in previous Super Cups and also in World Cups allowed players who were in the final season of their VHL season to participate in the tournament providing that they hadn’t already announced their retirement, so had the VHL elected to use the rules used in the previous tournaments, Slaughter would have been eligible for the competition. The news may come as a disappointment to Slaughter who, if he were able to enter the competition, would have had a shot to become the tournament’s first three-time champion. This ruling though means that there will be just two players with a shot at earning that distinction; Dynamo winger James Faraday and Meute winger Bruno Wolf. If this ruling is a sign of things to come, then this could also be disappointing news for those players who were selected in the Season 40 Draft. If the ruling used here carries over to the following tournament, then this will definitely be their final shot at Super Cup glory, so players such as Thomas O’Malley and Mason Richardson will be hoping for some success in this tournament, having failed to make the Final in each of their last two appearances. New Super Cup Schedule Make Brekker Bad Records UnBrekkerble The rules on eligibility for retiring players were not the only change made to the Super Cup. The VHL Board of Governors have also elected to shorten the Super Cup round robin phase from 20 games to 10 games, theoretically making every win during that phase twice as important. What this means historically though is that there will be Super Cup records that will simply become unbreakable through proxy of not having enough games to break them. One such record is the Season 41 Super Cup winning Brekker Bad’s 18 wins, more wins than any other Super Cup team have been able to muster up. Brekker Bad also hold the current records for longest winning streak (12 consecutive wins) and most goals scored (99) and, while these records are still mathematically breakable, logically there is going to be pretty much no chance for any team in this tournament to break those records. Consortium of VHL Agents Lining Up Potential Takeover of Soccer Club Last week we heard rumours that a consortium of VHL agents, led by former MFA running back Ron Dayne III, were set to make a takeover bid for a soccer club prior to the start of the 2015-2016 season. While we still haven’t heard about what team they are targeting or how much money they will have to part with to acquire ownership, there have been further rumours as to who the other members of the consortium are. The two agents who have been most prominently linked to the consortium are Chelsea fan Jason Glasser (the current representative of Kerkko Hyvarinen) and Australian Vladimir Boomchenko (who represents Bismarck Koenig). There have also been rumours about Stockholm Vikings center Jody 3 Moons taking a role within the club they acquire as Director of Football to assist with transfers in the summer transfer window but these details remain unconfirmed.
