Claimed:Zach Parechkin - Rookie Profile [Final 8/8]

Recommended Posts

Name: Zach Parechkin

Hometown: Burnaby, BC, Canada
Birthday: February 5th
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 215lbs
Position: Left Wing
Jersey: 23
Team: Brampton Blades (Heading into the VHLM Dispersal Draft)

Summary:

Stepping into the VHLM, Zach Parechkin had an abundance of hockey experience. He was a star for each team that he had played for, and was looking to make the journey to the VHL after opting out of NHL action, even though he was drafted there. Parechkin has a blistering shot and a big, physical presence on the ice. Zach will be a thrill to watch, no matter what team he plays on. It would be recommended to give him a playmaking centerman to play alongside. Last season he played for the Brampton Blades and made a name for himself, where he managed 39 points in 22 games, scoring 18 goals.

Pros:

Scoring: Goals, goals, goals. One of the main aspects of Zach's game is his strong ability with the puck. Going through his career thus far, he has been complimented with an elite level of a shot. If the game is going to be in anyone's hands, you might as well give that honour to Zach Parechkin. He is widely known to have a sick snipe, and it is a bullet at that. Many scouts will compare his shot with the NHL's Alexander Ovechkin, with its quick release and blistering speed.

Size: Zach Parechkin is a big boy, that is for sure. Coming in at 6'3", 215 pounds, he will not be easy to take down. Much like his shot being compared to Alex Ovechkin, one might say that his frame could have the same similarities. His huge size have never seemed to be a problem for him, but more of an asset as it will not slow him down. If you confront this man one-on-one up the ice, you will not be having any fun knocking him off of the puck, or trying to keep it away either.

Checking: With the big size that this man brings, it comes with a knack for removing a player from the puck. Parechkin is an asset to the team defensively as his big frame can be used to lay the body and retrieve the puck. With a few strides in his skate, Zach can level a player to the ice or into the boards. You might guess that there is a bit of a theme here. Yes, he relates to Alex Ovechkin in that way also. If Zach sees you in his sights, it is likely that he will take you out. This 6'3" power house can give out a massive hit.

Cons:

Passing: One thing that Parechkin is not the best at is passing. If you are a player awaiting the puck from Zach across the ice, do not be surprised if it gets intercepted or is not tape-to-tape. Sometimes he can overshoot a pass as well, but it seems to be related to his quick shot. Zach's strength on the hockey stick might be the reason that he cannot control his passes.

Discipline: Having the hefty build that Zach Parechkin does, sometimes he will find it difficult to hold back in physicality. If you are a coach that puts Zach on the ice, you may have to put up with a charge or boarding call. Watch out when he is on the ice, since he is prone to taking a bad penalty. With time comes experience though, and this is an area that is possible to be fixed.

Turnovers: With all the offensive skill that Parechkin has, like any player, he is likely to turn the puck over. Zach will try time and time again to deke the opposition on the ice, and with that will come turnovers. He is not afraid to take chances when skating up the ice, and loves going one on one with a defenseman. When that happens, be sure to have a defenseman back, because the puck might quickly head in the other direction. Hopefully though, more chances than not will work in his favour.
