Smarch 3,196
Weinstein off to a poor start Rookie goaltender Ariel Weinstein was excited to kick off his first VHL season just a few months ago, but the same feeling might not be there after a horrid rookie campaign. Drafted Third Overall by the Quebec Meute, Weinstein was the highest a player has been selected in the VHL from Smarch agency over the course of the VHLs forty-five seasons. With that high draft selection comes higher expectations for the young Jewish net-minder, something he has yet to live up to. Playing behind a re-tooling club, Weinstein started off fairly average between the pipes for the Meute, but all that changed after the trade deadline deals that saw Bruno Wolf and Tyson Stokes shipped out of town. In the final twenty games the Meute played in the regular season, they only managed to squeak out five wins, with Weinstein only winning three of the five games. Weinstein finished the season no higher than seventh on any of the individual leader categories, including being dead last in shoot-out percentage with an embarrassing .474 save percentage. If there is any saving grace from a terrible rookie season, it has to be there is nowhere but up to go from here for Weinstein.
