Now that the 45th VHL season is firmly in the books, the wondrous off-season can begin. As usual, the highlight this time around will be the draft, where Zach Parechkin is widely assumed to be the first overall pick.

Among the top picks should be Moscow right wing Pete Stockton, who will also be making an appearance at the VHLM Dispersal Draft. The Ottawa Lynx hold the first pick, courtesy of a trade with the league-worst Yukon Rush, and the runner-up Brampton Blades pick second after a trade with the Bratislava Watchmen. Since Stockton was a waiver-wire pickup by league champion Moscow, and since he is eligible (and likely to use) another season in the minors, chances are he'll be picked with one of those two choices this season. The other is likely to be star defenseman Jeff Hamilton, although fellow blue liner Olivia Diamond could sneak into the top two, as well.

Whatever happens, Stockton is sure to feel a draft overload this season, and ideally it'll be the start of a successful run for both teams that pick him up.
