A Look at The Numbers

Let’s take a look at the numbers for the two teams that have clinched a playoff spot in the VHLM North American Conference, the Ottawa Lynx and the Brampton Blades.

First, let’s look at record and points.  Ottawa has won a staggering 47 out of 57 games so far with 10 losses and zero overtime losses to earn 94 points.  Brampton, however, has only managed to win 32 games with 21 losses and four losses in overtime for 68 points.  There is no chance Brampton will catch Ottawa by the time the season is over.

Despite the difference in records, Brampton has a better power play percentage, 24.37% putting them in 1st overall over 2nd place Ottawa at 22.22%. Also, Brampton has a better penalty kill percentage 82.33% over Ottawa’s 81.60%, 3rd and 4th place respectively. Brampton does have the most penalty minutes with 656 so if they face off against Ottawa’s 2nd place power play in the off season, it will be an interesting storyline to follow.

The biggest differential between the two teams’ statistics is in goals for.  Ottawa has 63 more goals for so far, 254 to Brampton’s 181.  That is more than a goal per game difference.  If Brampton wants to win any post season series, they’ll need their offense to match Ottawa’s intensity and they’ll need to maintain composure and stay out of the sin bin.

That’s all for this Look at The Numbers.

I usually look at goal differential to tell the story, and since Ottawa has almost 100 more in goal differential than Brampton I think they are in good shape

Yeah, I had all the numbers written out but didn't end up using them all. As Brampton's GM, I'm worried lol
