In a league that has been running as long as the VHL has, you get to a point where you can rely on it to continue to run like a well-oiled machine despite the occasional hiccups. However, along the way there will be things that will occasionally get looked over or forgotten about in the quest to make sure that the league continues to run smoothly. Here’s a couple of things that I noticed that used to be consistently updated, but have slacked off in recent times:

VHL Trade Tracker

Since the new site came to life, the VHL Trade Tracker up to Season 44 had been one of the most consistently up-to-date pieces of information on the site. It’s a great tool as well, allowing you to quickly browse through all the trades since the move to the new site in one small place, allowing quick CTRL+F’s to find particular trades that you remember and want to look back on. Unfortunately, the tracker hasn’t been updated since Season 45 started, meaning there are 15 trades that have yet to be added to the tracker, and some of the trades mentioned currently in the tracker have since had their picks used on players but haven’t been updated accordingly. I think this is one of those pieces that greatly benefit from updating as you go, as it really is only a two minute job max to add a trade, but it can be disheartening to update a mass amount at a time, which is the situation we know find ourselves in.

VHL/VHLM This Week

While VHL/VHLM This Week doesn’t play as important a role as the Trade Tracker does, they provided a good overview of recent events happening around the league, helping to add a media-presence that I feel SBA and Shaka leagues do really well. Unfortunately, with Molholt and Smarch taking more important jobs, the articles dropped off and we haven’t had any This Week updates in a long while. While they aren’t necessary, I feel like if they are going to be stopped, maybe they shouldn’t hold as prominent a spot on the forum as they currently do. If there’s anything that’s going to stand out as lacking content to newer members, it would be a lack of weekly updates to a forum called VHL/VHLM This Week.

On the same subject, the VHL Trivia really could also do with an overhaul. While I appreciate that Victor initially did a really good job when he took over from whoever originally started the trivia, what is supposed to be a weekly point task has seen updates taking as long as a month, with only four Trivia questions being asked since September. You’d have to say that this infrequency has contributed to the huge drop-off in interest. Back when Victor took over the role, he would get over 30+ responses, and would continue to get around 25 responses a week once it got into a rhythm, showing that there is indeed a demand for that type of point task. But with his last Trivia (which also saw the answers posted two weeks after the closing date) getting just ten responses, there has to be something done to reignite what was there when Victor first took over the role.
