Felipe's New Role

Felipe Rodriguez’s recent promotion to GM of the Brampton Blades has paid dividends not only for him but also the team he plays for and the team he manages.  It was the confidence boost he needed to take his offensive game to the next level.  In fact, just this past game against the Bern Royals, Flip recorded the first hat trick of his career and subsequently, the only 3 goals the Lynx put on the board in the 3-2 victory.  The Ottawa Lynx’s record over the past 10 games is 9-1-0 and in that span, Felipe has recorded 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points as well as a +17 rating.  That is an average of two points per game which is up there close to the league leader in points per game.  He also was not in the negative the entire 10 game stretch.  Felipe has 19 goals on the year meaning he more than doubled his season total in the past 10 games.  At 19 goals and 34 assists, Felipe is still seven points away from the leader board for points for defensemen in the VHLM.

As a GM, Felipe took over the Brampton Blades due to inactivity by their former GM.  He inherited a very quiet and inactive locker room with only three active players.  Just a few hours into his term as GM, Felipe made a move for a player many believe will be drafted first overall in the upcoming draft.  That means Brampton needs to make the most of this season as he will likely be gone afterwards.  That player is John Sleeman.  Brampton had to send a few picks to Bratislava for Sleeman in hopes he’d put them over the top for a deep playoff run.  It is looking like Ottawa, the team Felipe actually plays for, might be too tough for Brampton, but in the playoffs, anything can happen.  Since taking over as GM and adding the star defenseman, Brampton has had their ups and downs posting a respectable 7-3-0 record their last 10 games.  More importantly, they have clinched a playoff spot and need to stay healthy and hungry going into the post season.

What is next for Felipe now?  Well, for now he’s focusing on both of his teams.  Brampton claimed a new  left wing, Adam Holmstrom from Skelleftea, Sweden as a playmaker to hopefully boost offensive production, something they’ll need plenty of if they plan on taking down Ottawa and their high powered offense.  As for the player, Felipe just needs to ride this hot streak into the post season and lead his team to the Promised Land.  The puck has been bouncing his way lately so there’s not much that needs to be changed as far as he is concerned.  His ice time is at a season high as is his offensive production.  He is peaking at the perfect time, when it matters, we will just have to hope this is a pace he can maintain and this is not a fluke streak of great offensive games.
