WC S46 - Interview With Team World GM

Recommended Posts

Congratulations on being selected as Team World's General Manager for the upcoming World Cup! Team World picked up a bronze medal at the last tournament, their first medal in their short World Cup history, are you confident on matching or even improving upon that performance in this year's tournament?

Thanks! I'm delighted to be given the opportunity. I think we have a great roster this year, guy's like Karnage and 3 Moons are at their peak and I hope that can translate to team success in the tournament.

In their short existence, Team World have struggled at the goalie position, either having to rely on players from other nationalities or the inactive Fedir Okranitz. This year however you will have the services of Quebec City Meute goalie Ariel Weinstein, how much of a boost is it to have a goalie of his caliber on the roster?

Ariel is going to be a huge part of our chances in the tournament. He's a real up and comer and this will be his chance to shine on the international stage. It's vital for any team to have a good presence in net and that's something that Ariel definitely provides for us.

Amazingly, your team has 3 of the top 6 forwards in TPA in the form of Jody 3 Moons, Lord Karnage and Edwin Reencarnacion. Will you be looking to play these three talents on the same line or will you instead be looking to split them up and distribute their talents across the other lines?

It's something I've been mulling over the last few days, and I think there's some real advantages to both options. I love the idea of having an elite offensive line that can come on and score goals when we really need them, but on the other hand I like the idea of having two strong lines with offensive talent. I can definitely say that we'll be looking to keep he two Stockholm teammates in 3 Moons and Karnage on the same line, it's just whether we really look to stack up the line and add Reencarnacion or use him to give some serious firepower to our second line.

Sooryu Kaminogi is one of the players you are eligible to select for this tournament. When the last tournament was played (although he didn't make the team) he was a winger but he has since been moved to defenseman. Do you think Kaminogi playing at his current position helps Team World more or would it have been better for you to have had him still at the winger position?

Definitely, I'm glad to have him in the team as a strong blueliner. As you just pointed out, we're pretty loaded at the forward positions so to have a reliable player like Kaminogi on the blueline, which is arguably our weaker area is a huge help.

This will be your first GM job in the VHL, what was it about the job that convinced you to apply for the role?

I've always been interested in GM positions, and I think due to the nature of the tournament it'll give me a chance to work with the level of talent that I simply wouldn't be able to if I was working in the VHLM. Hopefully I'll be able to help the team give a good showing and that'll reflect well on me when it comes to applying for future positions.

Looking at your current player (Dmitri Dadonov), you find yourself representing a team with a lot of other young goalies such as Zhumbayev and Holik. How difficult do you think it will be to separate from that group and eventually be selected for a spot on Team World?

I think firstly it says a lot about how well set Team World is at goalie for the next few tournaments! But those are some super talented players who are guaranteed to go on and have great careers. Honestly, I may not be able to separate myself from them, but I'm going to keep doing my thing and that may well mean eventually I get the call up but who knows.

Final question, there has been talk about the potential implementation of a player store purchase that would allow players to switch nationality. Is that an option you would approve of or do you think such a purchase is not in the spirit of the World Cup?

I personally don't like the idea. I think the World Cup works better here as opposed to other sim leagues in that every team has a real chance of winning and has it's share of quality players, and I really think being able to pick and choose your nationality after the fact would damage this.

Thanks to Daniel for his answers
