Theo Axelsson has been considered by many to be one of the top prospects for the Season 50 VHL draft so far.  However, one concern has been whether or not he’ll be able to adjust properly to life in the VHL, as he’ll be living away from his family and in a new country with a new language.  It was expected that the VHLM would be a sort of “trial run” for Axelsson, where he’d have more time to adjust and assuage scouts’ worries about any difficulties he might have.  In his time with the Saskatoon Wild thus far, it hasn’t appeared as if he’s needed any time to adjust at all, however.  Over 18 VHLM games, Axelsson has proved his worth by scoring 11 goals and 23 points in total, including a hat trick and an assist in Saskatoon’s most recent game against the Yukon Rush - the team that claimed him off waivers, then traded him before he even played a single game for the team.

Axelsson’s team are no slouches either.  Due to the multiple trades they’ve made, Saskatoon are a team primed for a cup run in Season 48.  They’re filled with players that are likely to catch the attention of multiple VHL teams in the future.  Asher Donovan, one of Axelsson’s linemates (who assisted two of his three goals against Yukon), has recently burst onto the scene in the Season 49 draft, and is looking like he could be a steal in the late first round if he keeps up his current pace.  Like Axelsson, he’s scored 23 points in his 18 games with the Wild, but also added two assists  Essian Ravenwing, a playmaking center and another one of Axelsson’s linemates, has also done well thus far, with seven assists in his time with Saskatoon.  Having declared for the Season 50 draft, it’s looking likely that he’ll be fighting with Axelsson and Ottawa Lynx forward Diana Maxwell for the top spot in the draft over the course of the next one and a half seasons.
