On Friday, July 20th 2007, the Victory Hockey League officially opened its doors for business. Then commissioner ft.13 or Brett Noiles was quoted with saying "The VHL has officially opened its doors, Friday July 20th, 11:30 P.M. Feel free to look around and make sure you get as many people as possible to join, we're gonna need as many as we can. Any questions can be directed to LIU, me or scotty." The three commissioners that brought us this proud league we know today aren't with us any more but they are definitely in our hearts whether we want to admit it or not. These three people are better known by usernames such as LightItUp4126 aka Kevin Brooks, scotty aka Scotty Campbell and ft.13 aka Brett Noiles.

One day later the first ever draft order was announced. On July 21st 2007, the Calgary Wranglers won the draft lottery. The draft order looked like this:

1- Calgary Wranglers
2- Hamilton Canucks
3- Helsinki Frostbite
4- Stockholm Thunder
5- Seattle Everblades
6- Amstel Tigers
7- Toronto Legion
8- Vasteras IK

Many thought this was a blessing for the Wrangler franchise, GM Brett Slobodzian must have thought otherwise because on July 26th 2007, GM Brett Slobodzian did the unthinkable and traded away the 1st overall pick. The trade looked like this:

To the Calgary Wranglers:

Amstel's S1 1st Round Draft Pick (6th Overall)

Amstel's S1 2nd Round Draft Pick (11th Overall)

Amstel's S2 4th Round Draft Pick (with stipulations)

To the Amstel Tigers:

Calgary's S1 1st Round Draft Pick (1st Overall)

Calgary's S1 2nd Round Draft Pick (16th Overall)

Now that is quite the deal isn't it? GM Brett Slobodzian was quoted with saying "Some are going to think, what the hell is he doing"? Well what he's doing is making sure his team has depth and not just one superstar. "We feel that as long as someone in the 11th or 17th overall position continues to do point tasks, he/she will be just as good if not better than the first overall selection". If they are active and do PT regularly, than I have no problem making this deal any day of the week". How is that for fireworks in the League that is just in its infancy. The stipulations with the S2 draft pick were that if the S2 draft wasn't 4 rounds and was only 3 then it would be a 3rd round draft pick, if it was only 2 rounds then it would be a 2nd round draft pick and if it was only 1 round then there would be money compensations.

That wasn't the only pre draft trading that happened, another notable deal took place between the Hamilton Canucks and Vasteras IK

To the Vasteras IK

Hamilton Canucks S1 1st Round Draft Pick (2nd Overall)

To the Hamilton Canucks

Vasteras IK S1 1st Round Draft Pick (8th Overall)

Vasteras IK S2 2nd Round Draft Pick

Two big trades in one day, btoh involving the 1st and 2nd overall picks. Who would have thought that the 1st Overall and 2nd overall picks would be moved? This was obviously a big trade in the VHL as now the Vasteras IK had traded up to 2nd overall. In a later Media Spot you will find out why this 2nd overall selection was such an important piece in Vasteras IK history. GM Lucas Tannahill was quoted with saying "This may not be the 1st Overall, but it's a solid consolation prize. Thanks Noiles."

Other minor deals took place during the Draft which was on July 26th 2007. These trades involved Vasteras IKthe Calgary Wranglers and the Amstel Tigers.

The trades looked like this

To the Vasteras IK

Calgary's S1 5th Round Draft Pick (33rd Overall)

To the Calgary Wranglers

Vasteras IK S1 5th Round Draft Pick (40th Overall)

Vasteras IK S1 6th Round Draft Pick (41st Overall)

To the Amstel Tigers

Vasteras IK S1 7th Round Draft Pick (56th Overall)

To the Vasteras IK

$500,000

After all these trades the draft looked like this:

1st Round

1. Amstel Tigers (from Calgary Wranglers)

2. Vasteras IK (from Hamilton Canucks)

6. Calgary Wranglers (from Amstel Tigers)

8. Hamilton Canucks (from Vasteras IK)

2nd Round

11. Calgary Wranglers (from Amstel Tigers)

16. Amstel Tigers (from Calgary Wranglers)

6th Round

41. Calgary Wranglers (from Vasteras IK)

7th Round

56. Amstel Tigers (From Vasteras IK)

*The rest of the order was the same as the one I given to you at the beginning of this MS with the exception of these minor details. It was also a snake draft so you get the picture.

Content- 3/3: I'm really surprised that all of this happened in a mere 5 days after the VHL was created. Usually you would think they would wanna keep their place to get the best possible player in the draft, but in reality, there really wasn't any way of saying who was a clear cut above the rest. Nice media spot but stay away from the yellow text. Its a killer on the eyes

Grammar- 1.25/2: There was way to many mistakes in such a short piece like this, due to the fact alot of the word count was the draft orders, trades, and quotes. You might really wanna be careful because alot of your mistakes were punctuation, which are easy to avoid.

us any more but = us anymore, but

infancy. = infancy?

btoh- both

VHL as now - VHL, as now

later Media Spot you = later Media Spot, you

Appearance- 1/1: God I wanna dock you on this for making my eyes bleed with all that yellow.  But hey you used colors and made it look nice.

Overall- 5.25/6

Content- 3/3: Catching up on some old VHL history always bring back a lot of memories. Glad to see the foundation of the league be highlighted.

Grammar- 1.25/2: What sball said. Punctuation may be easy to trip over sometimes but still makes a difference.

Appearance-1/1: As mentioned before, you did use plenty of colors but having each team highlighted got to be an eyesore.

Overall- 5.25/6

Final- 5/6
