A big week for Axelsson

The previous week has been a very significant week in Theo Axelsson’s short VHL career.  First, Axelsson was a surprise addition to the Scandinavian team for the Season 48 World Cup.  As a player who wouldn’t even be playing in the VHL until Season 50, not many expected Axelsson to even play for a team in the World Cup until he made it out of the VHLM, but the management and coaches seemed to see something in Axelsson that might make him a future star of the team.  Axelsson hasn’t had an incredible World Cup thus far, with only four points in 10 games making him the lowest scorer on the team - despite playing on a line with established VHL stars such as Max Molholt and Jorma Ruutu.  However, it’s likely that playing with and against some of the best players in the VHL will be a learning experience that will help Axelsson to improve and prepare himself for the big leagues.

 

But that wasn’t the only big event for Axelsson.  Just recently, the Season 49 VHLM Dispersal Draft was held, which would determine where some of the top young prospects in the minor leagues would be playing.  The Swedish forward was selected by the Brampton Blades at the eighth overall pick in the draft, and by all appearances seems to be joining a team that will be one of the top contenders for the Founder’s Cup in the upcoming season.  Boasting such prospects as Diana Maxwell, Sven Wolf, Friedrich Muller, and Misha Tobolsk, the Blades already have a good core of active players to build a contender.  With the two top prospects in the S50 draft in Maxwell and Axelsson, it will be interesting to see just how potent Brampton’s offense can be.
