After a trip to play in the World Cup for Canada, Doughty returns to Calgary to kick off his rookie season in the VHL with about five more pounds of baggage. A hard fought win by Canada pulled out a bronze medal for the squad, a game that was kicked off by Doughty scoring the game's first marker and only goal of the tournament for the young defender. Doughty had this to say about his time at the international competition.

It was a good time and I was happy to get the medal. Obviously you always want to come away with the gold, but there was some stiff competition and we were far from the favourite to win the tourney, so placing at all was a big boost for us. I was surprised when I was named to the roster, but I'm glad the management team saw the potential I have and I feel like I was able to make an impact for the team. I wasn't a big point producer but I made sure to use my body and it showed in the hits and shot blocks department. Finally getting the monkey off my back with the goal in the medal game was a big moment for me and I'm glad I was able to chip in to help us get the win. It was a fun experience and I'm looking forward to getting back there in a couple years, but for now I'm glad to be home and ready to start getting elbow deep in the VHL season.
