Summary

There is no question that after a 'steroids' scandal that involved Robert Sharpe and a change in the GM chair that Robert Sharpe had fallen out of favor with the Amstel Tijgers (How GM JJ Krever spelled the name). So he was shipped away in a big trade to the Stockholm Thunder. Sharpe in my opinion was not as bad as people make him out to be nor was he any worse than the goalies from Season 1 to make the HoF. Sharpe though would only spend about 1 1/2 seasons with the Thunder though. The Draft picks as well did not stay with the team if I remember correctly. We will see them later in these reviews I think. Robert Sharpe finished his career with a 144-100-21 with a 0.889 save percentage and a 3.10 G.A.A. Doesn't look very god but you have to take into account for the era he played in, played in the highest scoring era in VHL History. Doug Schneider played in 538 games, scoring 118 goals and 412 assists for 530 points. He was also a +342 with 890 shots blocked. He is one of the best defenders from his era. Robbie Zimmers wasn't too bad himself playing in 562 games scoring 216 goals and assisting on 310 goals for 526 points.

Alex Gegeny on the other hand wasn't that bad of a player, it's just that he retired a bit to early. He played in only 222 games, scoring 149 goals with 181 assists for 330 points. Pretty great numbers right? Too bad he retired far to soon. Sam Martin on the other hand didn't pan out at all. In 103 games played his record was 31-54-7 with a 0.876 save percentage and a 4.47 G.A.A.

Verdict

Well look at those numbers, even though they didn't really play for the Thunder, you can't argue about the results they put up in their career. This trade may have turned out different if Gegeny didn't retire and he continued to put up more than a point per game but we can't go by what ifs. This trade in the end wasn't really that close and Stockholm wins.

Center Adrian McCreath

Season 2 Hamilton 4th Round Pick (Goaltender Josh Wilson)

GM: Petr Shirokov

Summary

Adrian McCreath and Alex Gegeny formed a pretty solid 1-2 punch at center for a while until both decided to retire in their primes and recreate as goalies of the same name. In his career as a center Adrian played in 360 games, scoring 124 goals and assisting on 168 goals for 292 points. Pretty decent 2nd line production but it was no where near the production the 2nd rounders produced. The 4th rounder turned out to be another goalie who was named Josh Wilson. Josh though ended up being a career backup. He ended up playing in 50 games, going 18-19-4 with a 0.879 save percentage and a 3.84 G.A.A. Not a very good return for 2 2nd round picks.

Amstel's 2nd rounder turned out to be Markko St.Urho who turned out to be one of Hamilton's best players in their history. He put up 231 goals and 345 assists for 576 points in 504 games. He was a fixture in the Hamilton line-up for seasons. He brought a level of respect with him. Helsinki's 2nd rounder turned out to be one of the most underrated players in VHL history. Shawn Crowley ended up playing in 576 games, scoring 204 goals and assisting on 397 goals for 601 points. If my memory serves correct, both stayed and played most of their careers with the Hamilton Canucks.

Verdict

If possibly the players Shirokov had acquired played longer this these two trades might be closer and Amstel may have won them. As it stands though, in my opinion they have lost both.
