DollarAndADream 3,356
Legion Woes What has happened lately to the Toronto Legion? Earlier in the season, there was no doubt in the team, and you may have thought they would be unstoppable. With constant threats like Max Molholt, Zach Parechkin, and LeAndre St. Pierre, you would think that a losing streak would be hard to come by. It's not that they have been losing a lot lately, but it has been unfamiliar territory for Legion players who have been on the team for the past couple of seasons. The Toronto Legion are currently on a 3 game losing streak. They lost to the New York Americans twice and the Quebec City Meute once. The Meute have had their number a few times this season, while the Americans have had the better of them in their season series as well. If Toronto wants to repeat as cup champions, they will need to try and muster something up to get past at least one of these teams. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Let's take a look at their losing streak. vs Meute In their latest game played, the Toronto Legion faced off against the Meute. It was a very competitive game, with goals going both ways, and it wound up ending in overtime. In the first period, the Legion opened the game up on the PP with Francis York Morgan's 21st goal of the season. It was less than a minute later at the 8:36 mark of the period where Max Molholt capitalized at even strength with his 53rd goal of the season. The Legion exited the period with a 2-0 lead. In the 2nd period, Unassisted scored at the 6:23 mark from passes by Koponen and Lincoln. It was Unassisted's 41's goal. The Meute outshot Toronto 12-7 that period, and climbed out of it behind by one goal. In the 3rd period, the Legion had the upper hand in shots overall. Despite that, Tom Lincoln scored his 50th goal of the season while approaching the halfway point of the period, and tied the game up at 2. The Legion blew their early 2-0 lead and allowed Quebec to bring themselves back in it. Not only that, but the Meute carried the play in OT, where they outshot Toronto 5-0 and scored 2 minutes in to win it off Alexei Koponen's 55th. Both goalies were great in this game, with over 30 saves each. vs Americans Two games ago was a game where the Legion played against the Americans. The first period was a bit of a crazy one, where New York had 15 shots to Toronto's 5. The funny thing about that is, the teams came out of that period even. Edwin Reencarnacion scored halfway through the period with his 48th, and only ten seconds later, Max Molholt potted in his 52nd. Under two minutes after that, Encarnacion scored again, but Marcel Faux tied it up 2-2, 22 seconds later. All four of those goals were even strength, and the period ended 2-2. Into the second period they went, where shots were even at 11 a piece. No goals were scored, but the period was full of penalties. Next up was the third period, and New York scored early at the 1:00 mark, where veteran Lord Karnage scored his 35th goal. The Toronto Legion had 15 shots to New York's 10, but the Americans came away with the win, and Ariel Weinstein held the door shut to seal it. vs Americans #2 In the first game of their three game losing streak, it was also against the Americans. In this one, New York came out with a quick goal only 25 seconds in, where Edwin Reencarnacion scored. Benjamin Zeptenbergs took a roughing penalties at 3:39 of the period, and New York capitalized on a goal from Lord Karnage, taking the early 2-0 lead. Before the period ended however, Toronto was able to find the back of the net. Max Molholt late in the period brought the Legion within one. In the second period, the shots were just as even as in the first, but Zach Parechkin took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty nearing the 5 minute mark. New York was quick to score on that power play, where E'Twaun Delicious scored his 22nd, and the Americans regained that two goal lead with a 3-1 score. In the third period, the Legion were battling back, but it wasn't until 13:10 of the period where Max Molholt scored his 51st to bring them once again within one goal. While the Toronto Legion tried their best to equalize, Black Velvet took a roughing penalty with less than two minutes to go, and Edwin Reencarnacion made them pay with a 4-2 tally. Hans Wingate stopped 24 of 28 with a save percentage of under 90%. -------------------------------------- As you might have been able to see, Toronto's captain Zach Parechkin was unable to even earn a point in their three game losing streak. This could be the key to those losses. Although Toronto's forwards were not having trouble scoring, Zach Parechkin's offense brings a lot of depth to the table and if he scored, they may have likely won those games.
