solas 1,951
Axelsson Headed to Calgary Yesterday’s draft was seen by many as one of the last of an old era. With the new rules allowing agents to represent two players, the season 50 and 51 drafts will likely be the last ones before future drafts become much deeper and filled with more talented players. But for Swedish forward Theo Axelsson, the Season 50 draft was seen as the first of a new era. Axelsson, who was in close competition with first overall pick Diana Maxwell all season long, was selected second overall by the Calgary Wranglers and will hope to help lead the franchise back to its former glory. He’ll be looking to make an impact in the VHL right away. With the VHLM’s Brampton Blades, Axelsson scored 65 goals and 64 assists for a total of 129 points in Season 49, not to mention an impressive 309 hits. Axelsson, who had previously only spoken through a translator, spoke English for the first time publicly after the draft. “I’m excited to join the team,” he said. “I’ve spoken with the GM and coaches many times, and I can’t wait to start playing.” The Wranglers, who recently traded for goalie Ariel Weinstein from the New York Americans, might very well be looking to Axelsson to be their top scorer next season. If he delivers on his potential, Axelsson may well be doing that and more for many seasons to come. eaglesfan036 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/32094-axelsson-headed-to-calgary/ Share on other sites
