About a decade ago, the then-youthful Essian Ravenwing decided that there was too much allure to avoid taking a cross-Atlantic vacation to visit North America. Being a young man very proud of his heritage, however, the apple-cheeked Welshman hired a crew of 30 and had a ship commissioned. The blueprint was modeled after the 15th century ships, large wooden hulls, bolted-down furniture, masts and rigging all of the style. The crew set sail on the day that Ravenwing celebrated his 16th birthday. It is rumored that the independently wealthy young man brought along a young lady friend or two for the voyage, though none can confirm nor deny that possibility.

The trouble with confirmation comes from the fact that only three of the 30 or so people on that ship made it to North America. When the ship finally floated into the port in Boston, Massachusetts, the main mast was snapped in two, the sails were in tatters, and deep red bloodstains peppered the deck. A two month investigation followed, and rumor has it that one of the surviving crew members claimed that the ship had been attacked some eight days before reaching port, by a monster resembling that which cartographers used to use to decorate the unknown parts of their maps.

Ravenwing never spoke of the incident, though there have long been whispers from those close to him that the 16-year-old fought off a terrible beast, but not before there were heavy casualties. Some of those same whispers tell of a 16 inch scar that runs along Ravenwing's right thigh, perhaps from the graze of an ancient tooth....
