It is safe to say that Jordan Maverick of the Riga Reign has finally found his place in Victory Hockey League. A hitting sniper, Maverick just came off of his best season where he put up career high numbers in almost every category. Not one for the spotlight, you won't see his name in articles or hear about his performances on podcasts often. But that may be changing soon with his most recent VHL season, as well as his head-turning performance in the most recent World Cup. Let's take a look to see how improved from S49 to S50, then review his World Cup numbers as well!

S49 Stats

Goals: 23

Assists: 37

Points: 60

+/-: -20

Hits: 168

Star 1: 1

Star 2: 7

Star 3: 6

- Maverick put up decent numbers and improve upon his S48 performance. Riga as a team struggled at times, which is natural duting a rebuild process. Maverick concentrates mostly on his point and hit totals, but tough to ignore the terrible plus/minus numbers. His 60 points were good for 6th on the team and his 168 hits were 2nd after Bronson Faux's 300.

S50 Stats

Goals: 37

Assists: 43

Points: 80

+/-: +20

Hits: 239

Star 1: 11

Star 2: 6

Star 3: 6

- Maverick had a career season and put up some really good numbers for Riga. His 37 goals and + 20 plus/minus led them team in S50. It is impressive to see him go from -20 to +20 plus/minus, a 40 goal difference. His season was good enough to get him on the top 10 VHL leaderboards in a few categories. He was tied for 10th in goals (37), the number #4 overall left winger, and number 9 in hits. He also had 8 GWGs, which was more than likely a big factor in jumping from only 1 First Star game to 11. Riga hope to see the play of Maverick continue to develop.

In another facet of the game, Jordan Maverick was selected to Team USA to faceoff against other Nations for the S50 World Cup. Team USA wasn't expected to do very well, based on previous tournaments. However, they were able to break through and managed to bring home a Bronze medal. While this may not seem like a huge accomplishment, but for a young American team, things are only looking up. Maverick's stats did earn him some recognition nationally and he is just starting to become a name that stands out. His stats from the tournament are as follows:

S50 Wrld Cup Stats

Games: 12

Goals: 10

Assists: 10

Points: 20

+/-: -2

Hits: 50

Star 1: 1

Star 2: 2

Star 3: 2

- Maverick had a great tournament and really helped guide USA to a medal. His play during the Round robin play got him the most points (16), tied for most goals (8), tied for 2nd in shots (66) and 4th in hits (42). All-in-all, he is showing that he isn't afraid to take shots on net, as well as lay out the body when need be. Think of Rick Nash in his prime. Though he was not named a captain this season in Riga, it's only a matter of time before the league notices this player. Hopefully it's when he's lifting the Cup with his teammates in Riga!

We asked Maverick his expectations for the upcoming season and the fact he isn't well-known yet:

"Really looking forward to playing our game and hopefully improving upon last season. I think we surprised some people and critics last season with as far as we went though. We have a great group of guys, the locker room is buzzing and I'm happy this season is underway. As far as me not being very well-known, that's never been something I cared to worry about. There are a ton of elite players in this league and I need to earn my right to have my name among theirs. My agent told me I'd be on the cover of the league magazine soon, which will be cool. He said it could help with some sponsorship opportunities, which would be pretty awesome I guess. Anyway, I guess we'll see if that ever happens. I'm really just looking forward to improving my game and laying out some bodies on the ice!

Review: Congrats on the strides you're making! Really happy for you! Article was insightful and a good read for guys like me who want to learn about the current VHL and some of the lesser known players. Only thing i will say is grammar could be improved a little. Especially when you are using certain tenses IE "Maverick concentrates mostly on his point and hit totals, but tough to ignore the terrible plus/minus numbers." Maybe use "concentrated" since it is past tense. Good job though! Keep it up!
