Devise 4,475
Maximus Theodore Power Goalie Style: Hybrid Stand Up Glove Hand: Right Height: 6'7" Weight: 210lb Born: Anchorage, Alaska The Low Down Given the nature of his upbringing, very little is actually known about the hockey career of M.T. Power. Other than filling in during spots in the midgets and minor leagues, never for a full season, the only information on his game comes from the various VHL players and scouts who have seen him drill, practice, and perform. Based on that we can tell you that Theo plays a very unique goalie style. Despite being a hybrid goalie, he still prefers to stand up on most shots. He will only engage in the butterfly if absolutely necessary, and he was trained to value angles and positioning above all else. He appeared to be very strong at reading both offensive and defensive plays, and does a good job anticipating the likeliest shot. This allows him to maintain position in most cases. Thus far in his short VHLM career, there has been an adjustment period of sorts. His first season with the Bratislava Watchmen is underway, and he seems to be settling into his role nicely. Scouts also said that Theo loves to face shots, and the more he faces the more confident he feels. While he doesn't break under the pressure when facing minimal shots, his game seems to elevate the more he's involved. His biggest on ice weakness is probably his puck possession, as he almost never trained with shoot in recoveries, or helping the break out with passes up the ice. The only other notable thing about his play is his fire and passion. He was involved in at least 4 minor league fights during his limited game time, and he would often get in the face of other players, even notable ones during scrimmages. Most likely due to his frustration with essentially being a slave to the game, and his desire to perform the best of his abilities. However early reports out of Bratislava report that in the current day, Maximus displays a very calm focused demeanor. Scouting Strengths and Weaknesses Quote Strength: Determination You are unlikely to find a player as determined as Maximus is. He is adamant that he is going to be a better goalie than Rift in every aspect, every definition. His attention to detail, his persistence when it comes to practice and trying to iron out holes in his game, all second to none. He is constantly the first one to arrive at the rink, and the last one to leave, and is always seeking out help from a number of different avenues, be they within his own team, or even retired experienced veterans outside of the team. Reports have already surfaced that he contacted the recently retired Hans Wingate about goalie tips. Quote Weakness: Experience and Age Unlike most younger goalies who come into the league, Maximus is coming in during his mid 20's. That isn't even the only factor either, as his actual full game experience is very limited. Until his recent tenure in the VHLM he had no full game experience since he was 15 years old. Even then, his game time was always limited as he never stayed with any team for a full season. The VHLM will offer him his first challenge at playing full season level minutes, and the lack of experience will always be a question mark for a player until they get some seasoning done. Quote Strength: Positional Play Easily Theo's greatest non physical asset is his understanding of the positional side of goal tending. His ability to read offensive and defensive plays, anticipate likely shots and solid rebound control all come from his positional play. He seems to have an uncanny ability to know exactly when he should be pushing out in the net to challenge a shot, go back deeper in his net, or even read if a player behind the net is going to come post to post. Most of the scouts who've seen him play accredit this in all likelihood to his enormous amount of practice hours, especially as a child. He plays as if goalie positioning is a natural reflex, which can be a huge asset especially if he irons out the rest of the holes in his game. Quote Weakness: Playing The Puck Theo is not known as a puck playing goalie, and he even struggles to make competent passes. Since joining the Watchmen this has been one of the priorities to focus, although he still struggles. His biggest issue is trying to handle the puck with the big goalie stick, as he's never even held or used a regular hockey stick to pass the puck around the ice. This leads to him playing more reserved than most goalies in net, as he rarely comes out to stop the puck around the boards, or assist in clearing the puck if given the opportunity. Quote Strength: Size It would be impossible to look at Maximus and not see his size as his biggest all around strength. It isn't just that he sits at 6'7, but his unique hybrid stand up style allows him to play to this strength, and utilize his size more effectively than you'd usually see. Even during butterfly he covers a good portion of the net, however it's his stand up game that is stellar. When you also factor in his strong positional play, his size allows him to cut off even more angles than usual. Quote Weakness: Scrambles Probably the biggest current weakness for Theo is his ability during scrambles. Given both his height and weight, and his reliance on both positional play, and rebound control, he at times easily falls victim to any form of scramble. This includes things like, deflections, broken plays, or during a situation where there happens to be a rebound, he often has to fight to be able to make a save. While there is no quit in his play, there is no denying that a smaller more agile goalie would be able to display the cat like reflex's and make more saves in scramble situations. Smarch 3,153
Review: 1,019 Words; 666 Words in the Pros and Cons Good rookie profile, but imo you have no problem writing long and boring stories. Hopefully your strength in determination is true, as the Americans have a good stable of youngsters and draft picks and you will need some determination for sure. Hopefully you can get some well needed experience and backstop the Americans to a Finals appearance in the future. Good job!
