An Empire of Fools Gold

A leaked email from the VHLM public relations department shows details that the Yukon Rush franchise is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. The team which has posted a financial loss over the past five seasons is about to default on their extensive loans. With this information I think it is safe to say that the venture into the great white north has been a silly experiment. The population in the area could never support a professional hockey team financially and travel costs were becoming a burden. There had been previous reports that players wanted out of Yukon due to poor living conditions and having no daylight during the hockey season months.

Through this the team has remained competitive and is heading to the Season 51 playoffs, where they could play their final games. The team was introduced to the VHLM in Season 31 and went on to have a successful start, turning doubters into believers. Now in their 20th season it seems like the page has finally turned, but 20 seasons of professional hockey in the Yukon is an accomplishment in of itself.

In the leaked email it seems the VHLM department is trying desperately to find a suitor to buy the rights to the Yukon Rush franchise. With time running out and no sale imminent, it could mark the end of the Rush as the team would be forced to close and sell off its assets to cover bank loans. There was a Silicon Valley tech billionaire on twitter last week tweeting out cryptic messages that seemed to imply the Rush could relocate to the original gold rush state, California.

The last franchise to relocate was the Vasteras IK J20 to the Moscow Red Wolves.
