RisingWater 10
by Tony Schefter / ********.com Staff Writer From the depths of the legendary Rising Water Hockey School comes yet another magnificent defensive player, Teli Briadora. He comes from a blue collar family based in Thunder Bay, Ontario and his father was a legendary steel master at the local steel mill and even though he is still a blacksmith by trade, he is now retired and has been enjoying watching his son progress through the hockey ranks. In fact, Teli Briadora has been tough on the ice when it comes to being persistent, blocking shots and never giving up on a puck that he has earned himself the nickname "Thunder Steel" during his tenure in rising through AAA hockey and into the VHLM as he is preparing to enter the draft. Throughout his career, Teli Briadora has gotten nothing easily. He has always faced doubts from his coaches as he is not the biggest point producer but rather a defensive jackhammer and a true force when it comes to keeping the puck in. He loves passing, he loves hitting and he loves skating faster than anyone else on the ice. Its no secret that Teli Briadora is a very one sided player but when a defenseman's one side is his defensive side, its hard not to look at him and see a shutdown player who nobody wants to play against. He will claw, he will scratch, he will push, he will pull, he will lift, he will rip and he will tear through anyone and anything in an attempt to keep the puck out of his own team's net. Former teammates have described Teli Briadora as being so passionate that his teammates have been quoted saying that they think that he might hate getting scored on more than goaltenders do. And that's saying something about how serious this young man is about keeping pucks on the good side of his own goal line. "My greatest strengths definitely lie in skating and puck possession, no doubt about it", Teli Briadora said. "Its not about scoring points for me, its about keeping the puck in and trying to stop offense at the blue line." When asked I Briadora about what his weaknesses might be, he had just as little doubt about those as well. "Oh, my scoring and passing are definitely not my strong suits", Briadora said. "I know I have to improve my passing and I know I have a decent shot but I don't like to utilize it. Its a hard shot but not an accurate shot. I miss the net a lot so I don't shoot a lot." When it comes to winning games, nobody likes winning more than Teli Briadora. The man is an animal when it comes to winning and he when his AAA team coach an incident involving a broken hand, it was Teli Briadora who stepped up as coach for a day while his team coach was in the hospital. He was basically his team's coach in the most important practice skate of their careers, the skate that took place the day before a game 7. Briadora's team won that game and ended up winning the championship with Teli Briadora as their captain. It was a miraculous run and Teli Briadora wants more runs like that, just in the VHLM and VHL. "I want big wins in the big leagues", Teli Briadora said and refused to elaborate any further. And it wasn't necessary, his message was clear: He wants to be a shutdown defenseman in the big leagues and he wants to win the big games no matter what team he is playing for. Look out for the Teli Briadora, he is coming with a lot of defensive prowess. The water levels have just begun to rise in the VHL and it'll be interesting to see if anyone's capable of closing the flood gates any time soon.
