FacePuncher 1,343
After winning the Founders' Cup, many of Saskatoon's core players prepared to hear their name called in the VHL or VHLM draft. In all, Saskatoon produced 11 VHL draft picks and 7 VHLM draft picks. Let's look into them: 2nd overall, G Rhett DeGrath Rhett DeGrath, nicknamed DeGod by his coaches and teammates, was the first member of the Wild take in the VHL draft. He was without a doubt the team MVP, with a 51-7-11 record, 1.41 GAA, and 19 shutouts. He was supposed to make a return to the team this year, but because of a TPE rule he will be forced to play in the VHL with Stockholm this season, a big blow to the team that could cost them the Championship. 3rd overall, D Fabio Jokinen The first overall pick in the S51 VHLM draft, Jokinen showed off his very specific skill set in the VHLM. He's a sniper and a physical player, scoring 20 goals and dishing out 117 hits. He will be helping out Quebec this year. 6th overall, RW Sami Zayn Zayn's player agency has a history with Helsinki, so it's only fitting that he was selected there with the 6th overall pick. Zayn will be the cornerstone of the Saskatoon Wild this year. 8th overall, D Grigory Kopralkov The other half of the Kopralkov duo, Grigory was drafted by New York and immediately traded for his brother. Kopralkov will anchor the thin blue line for Saskatoon this year. 10th overall, LW Conrad Jenkins Jenkins is very much a wild card, one reason why he was selected so late. He was second on the team in points last year, but many wonder if he will take the next step. Saskatoon is looking to him for extra forward support. 14th overall, LW Die Domi An absolute physical beast, Domi led the team in hits. He got the call up this year though and will play this season in Stockholm. 15th and 16th 28th and 19th, D Tomas and Aksel Syndergaard the brothers signed in Saskatoon together last season, and in turn were drafted together by Cologne this season. However, in the VHLM it seems as if the GMs forgot about them, as they fell to the 4th round somehow. They are on separate teams in the VHLM, will they be able to cope with that? 17th overall, C Johnny Styles A once promising recruit and the 4th Wild member drafted by Stockholm, Styles led the team in points and had great chemistry with Sami Zayn. However, his development has seemed to stall out, though it still makes him a solid top 6 VHLM player 18th overall, LW Austin Hickey V The 5th player in the Hickey line, he seems to have once again fallen short of expectations. However, he will still be an integral part to Saskatoon this year and has plenty of time to get back to form. 24th overall, RW Crash McClanahan a player taken in the third round by New York, Crash didn't do much of anything last season and should mostly continue to do the same. 3rd overall, D Xander Finn Finn, like all deadline acquisitions, only had 15 games to get used to VHLM hockey, but he led all deadline players in points and certainly made a great impression. 8th overall, G mist4ke signed with Yukon and then traded to Saskatoon, mist4ke only played in 3 games behind McGrath, but he won all three of them, even posting a shutout. He was drafted again by Yukon this year. 9th overall, RW Motherfucker Sharpe signing with Saskatoon thanks to the results of a coin toss, Sharpe didn't get much ice time, but he did still play an important part in the team's success. He will be playing in Ottawa this year. 12th overall, D Roman Sokolov selected by rival Bratislava, Sokolov was much more defensive focused, blocking almost a shot a game, but not scoring much. 13th overall, LW SkateFast McChunky being signed to a minimum contract, being given 3 minutes of ice time a game, and scoring only 1 point in 27 games, and it doesn't seem like McChunky will accomplish much in his time in Yukon Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/35599-claimedsaskatoon-in-the-drafts/ Share on other sites
