TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Here we reach the halfway mark of the Season 2 VHL Entry Draft. The next team up is the newly rebranded Helsinki Titans who were known as the Frostbite in Season 1. They did however not have a 1st round pick so we pick this up in the 2nd round. Round 2, Pick 12 (via Toronto Legion) - Left Wing Tommy Gunn Career Reg. Season Stats: 502 GP | 112 G | 182 A | 294 P Career Playoff Stats: 24 GP | 5 G | 6 A | 11 P Tommy Gunn who has one of the best names in VHL history was taken with the 12th overall pick. He had a relatively long career for a player who was taken in the 2nd round. He played in 502 games, scoring 112 goals and assisting on 182 goals for 294 points. This is a very decent point total but I don't think it is enough to make that much of a difference. He also played in 24 playoff games scoring 5 goals and assisted on 6 goals for 11 points. Again, very decent point totals. He however, was never more than a 3rd line player on a good time while a 2nd line player on a bad team. Round 3, Pick 17 - Left Wing Nick Hampton Career Reg. Season Stats: 322 GP | 84 G | 119 A | 203 P Career Playoff Stats: 10 GP | 1 G | 3 A | 4 P Now we have Nick Hampton who was taken in the 3rd round with the 17th pick. He was very much a surprise to be honest as he played in 322 games scoring 84 goals and assisting on 119 goals for 203 points. Very good for a depth winger. He played in 10 playoff games scoring 1 goal and assisting on 3 goals for 4 points. Which was on par to his regular season PPG average. He was a great depth piece but never had that extra kick and longevity to make him different from the pack. Round 4, Pick 25 - Left Wing Ideen Bure Career Reg. Season Stats: 144 GP | 25 G | 46 A | 71 P Career Playoff Stats: 23 GP | 1 G | 2 A | 3 P In round 4, the Titans took Ideen Bure who gave them two serviceable years. He played in 144 games scoring 25 goals and assisting on 46 goals for 71 points. He played in 23 playoff games scoring 1 goal and assisting on 2 goals for 3 points. He fits in the decent depth section of VHL history. Round 5, Pick 33 - Goaltender Chris Orosz Career Reg. Season Stats: 25 GP | 2 W | 4 L | 0 OTL | 0.905 SV% | 3.60 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Career Playoff Stats: 2 GP | 0 W | 0 L | 0 OTL | 1.000 SV% | 0.00 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Last a certainly least was Chris Orosz. He was taken with the 33rd overall pick and he didn't live up to much. He played in 25 games but only had a record of 2-4-0 with a decent .905 save percentage and a 3.60 G.A.A. He showed up in 2 playoff games had a 0-0-0 record with a perfect 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 G.A.A in 40 minutes of work. Wasn't much more than a backup goalie or even a VHLM goalie in all honesty. Verdict Well the Helsinki Titans had 4 picks through 5 rounds and other than maybe Tommy Gunn or Nick Hampton they never really panned out like you would like. Those two weren't game changers either but were nice depth and scored anywhere they played. So this is the first team to go 0 for however many draft picks they had. Season 2 Draft 1.
