InciteHysteria 68
Abendroth aims to put Vaduz on the Map By Kjetil Hansen OSLO - Kai Abendroth knows that he comes from an atypical hockey country. With a population only just approaching forty thousand, the small country of Liechtenstein is not known for it's hockey players. The only export that Liechtenstein is known for is False Teeth. That's right, False Teeth. Growing up sandwiched between Austria and Switzerland; Abendroth spent much of his young life inundated by the love of football. But with recent interest spiking for Ice Hockey in Switzerland; young Abendroth became intrigued by the sport. He spent many of his weekends as a child traveling to Davos to watch the Dynamo play. Being able to see a real life VHL team play, Abendroth knew what he wanted to become. He wanted to put his home country in the hockey world spotlight and lead a hockey revolution in his home country. He wanted to see the children of his small country to aspire to greatness. By the time Abendroth was 8 years old he had began on his path to hockey stardom. Playing in the Liechtenstein young league; Abendroth dominated. Playing every forward position on his team and many times making plays happen by himself. As Kai grew, so did his skills. His ability to find the back of the net in the most dire of circumstances, usually with a smile on his face, earned him a nickname. The nickname, "Mitternacht" or "Midnight", soon was being thrown around by all of his teammates. For when Abendroth was on the ice in the clutch minutes; it was the zero hour. The opponents time was up. As a young man of 14, Abendroth was recruited to play for the Bern Marmots of the NLC. A league dedicated to the development of young players in Switzerland and preparation for future hockey success. For the first time Abendroth would be challenged by peers who had the same goal as him; a chance to play in the VHL. Many of these young players shared talents with Abendroth but even at this level he stood out. His nickname still held true and he continued to be the closer his teams needed. In his time with the Marmots, Abendroth led the team to two championships and lead all scorers over the period. Winning the scoring title in his second year. "Mitternacht" was still at it. With his goals squarely set on the VHL and his name fresh in the mind of VHLM General Managers; Kai Abendroth was ready to take the next step. Contacted by General Mangers from Bratislava to Ottawa, Abendroth took his time deciding where would spend the next few years of his career. Receiving a call from the Manager of the Oslo Storm, Shawn Muller, Kai had an idea where he wanted to play. Hearing that he may have a spot on the first line of the best team in the VHLM; the spot was just too much to pass up. Abendroth signed the contract and has taken his first step into the world of the VHL. Aiming to put his country on the map. To spotlight that more than just false teeth can be an export from his small country. With Kai Abendroth ready to do his duty; Midnight has been struck in the VHLM.
