InciteHysteria 68
Kai "Mitternacht" Abendroth Position: Right Wing/Left Wing Height: 6'3" Weight: 210lbs Birthdate: February 19th, 1999 Birthplace: Vaduz, Liechtenstein (Plays for Switzerland internationally) Scouting Report: Abendroth is a big bodied speedster with incredible scoring ability. He has shown a nack for defensive play and could develop into a solid defensive player; all while delivering high octane scoring in the VHL. He can play too flashy sometimes, as his time playing with players less talented than himself has allowed him to grow overconfidence. The initial confidence he shows is a positive point to start with and will allow Abendroth the ability to get over bad games quicker than most other young players. He is not a strong winger despite his body size and will need to develop himself physically if he wants to be a brusing player to play against. He has a hot streak but prefers to not fight often but depending on how breaks go during the game, he could be a chippy player. Team Fit: Kai Abendroth looks to fit into the top line scorer role on any team he will go to in the VHL draft. He is a diamond in the rough. While other players may be more developed and farther along with their respective skills; Abendroth has the potential to become one of the best players in the league. He is a project but most great players start as a project. For any team dedicated enough to put in the work with Abendroth, he will be a steal. Career Notes: Abendroth has spent the last 3 years playing in Swiss developmental leagues. His first two years being part of the NLC; a developmental league focused on the betterment of young Swiss (and surrounding nation) players who show the talent to be members of professional hockey leagues. He scored on a very high clip in those two seasons and finished second all time in the NLC with nearly 227 points. He played with other promising young Swiss forward Florian Tribolet. The two showed great chemistry with each other; with Tribolet deciding to play for the PMHL developmental league in the USA and Abendroth continuing onto the NLA to play with Bern once again. His time spent on the professional NLA team showed his ability to play hard nosed hockey and score in places where there seemed to be no space. He has since signed a one year deal with the Oslo Storm of the VHLM and has notched 6 points in 11 games playing on the 2nd line. "Abendroth is a high octane player. His motor is always moving and he's always trying to get the puck on the net. Give him the puck and watch him work his magic!" - Tomas Amacher, Bern Marmots Head Coach Strengths: Speed: Abendroth is incredibly fast. He is maybe one of the fastest prospects to come out of Europe in a long time. His blazing speed, along with size, make him a formidable forward to bear down on defenders. What is very interesting about Abendroth is his ability to control his speed. Even near his top speed he is able to cut in and out. He is able to make quick decisions while skating and use the corners to his advantage. He has shown very little problems with stopping in the attacking side of the ice. One does wonder if he could possibily injure himself one day on a stopping mishap. Puck Control: Abendroth displays a keen ability to control the puck while going near top speed. He is able to handle the puck quickly and make quick decisions. Some would assume going top speed would distract one with the puck, but Abendroth has shown a unique skill in his ability to handle the puck. While in the offensive zone he has also shown the ability to move and control the puck in situations where he would have little space. Scoring Touch/Wrist Shot: Kai has demonstrated an ability to snipe the smallest holes that goalies give him. His wrist shot is among the best in the crop of rookies he joins. With correct development, Abendroth could develop into one of the best scorers in the VHL. Weaknesses: Lack of Strength: Abendroth has been faulted with not playing up to his size. While naturally gifted with a large powerful body; the wing has not properly used it and lacks some conditioning in his game. With proper training and a corrected diet, Abendroth could develop a more physical side of his game. But due to playing with lesser players, Kai has never had to push himself to be stronger physically. Discipline Control: Abendroth has a hot temper. He is not the type to fight but mainly goes for openings when given the chance. He could end up drawing penalties due to his penchant for retaliation. This may be able to be weaned out of him. But it's difficult to change a players temperment. Maybe with more experience. But given the way that Abendroth plays, we expect a few penalty minutes to be a possibility. Passing: While not nearly as bad as some may say, Abendroth is not the passer that many of the other players in his class claim to be. While not terrible at moving the puck. He's much better with the puck on his stick and attempting to put it in the net. He has the natural talent to be a skilled passer but he will never be the best passer in the league. With that being said, he will still continue to get assists and be a valuable part of a team.
