I have been forced to post this as a Point Task for last week. It's all @Streetlight's fault. Possibly some interference from @Higgins too. The point is, Merry Christmas

Chapter 8

Gregor stood with his hands and face pressed up against the glass, his eyes dancing with wonder and amazement. His jaw hung just above the ground and his eyes betrayed the reflections of the sparkling lights that teased him so. He stood there for minutes on end, watching the midday sun hit them and burst into a millions individual rays of light, ricocheting off each other, in turn breaking off into smaller rays, as if they were speaking a whole language through sun beams. For the past week, every day at noon, Gregor would come down to this store to look through the window. He still had never gone inside. He was nervous. Countless times each visit he would make a move towards the door, but withdraw suddenly, as if he were about to trespass on private property. He had already done that 3 times today.

Gregor looked up at the door anxiously as it opened and let a customer back into the street. Gregor was intensely studying the man’s face, trying to determine if any damage had been done inside the shop. The man caught eye of the fact Gregor was looking at him and hurried on down the street. Gregor resume his staring.

Maybe tomorrow, he said to himself, Maybe tomorrow will be the day.

Putting his hands in his pockets, he tore his eyes away from the display and slumped off back to his apartment, where his girlfriend was waiting for him to have lunch together.

10 minutes later, Gregor and Cersei were sitting at their kitchen table having butternut squash soup and biscuits. They ate in silence for a few moments before Cersei broke the quiet.

“Let’s try this again, Gregor. And for Pete’s sake please try to hold a conversation.”

Gregor swallowed hard and stammered “Uhhokay”

“Great! Now did you get want you wanted when you were out?”

I did not go out to get something I wanted. I went out for someone I adore. Oh Cersei, even if I could put into words the purpose of me going out again today I fear I would have to hide it from you, the way an ostrich hides in plain sight. Alas, if I am, not playing hockey, all I can think of is you. You consume my thoughts and take my voice away. You voice floats me downstream in the river of dreams to…

“GREGOR!”

Snapping out of his inner monologue he inhaled deeply and managed: “RMM. No. I did not.”

“Well that’s too bad. Do you know what I spent my day doing?”

Pausing, thinking it was probably best not to think too much, Gregor replied “Christmas?”

“Yes! Christmas. I am going to spend it with my family. I’ve packed all my stuff. I know that means you’ll be left all alone, but you’ll be at hockey practices and games most of the time and I don’t wait all that time by myself just to hear you say three words. I think I just need my space. You understand?”

I understand that this barrier to be unable to speak with you is caused by my complete love for you. A feeling I do not believe I deserve and therefore do not believe that I deserve you. I understand that it is exactly my love for you, paradoxically, that does not allowed me to express my adoration for you and thus you believe that it is my simple mind that cannot grasp the words to converse with you.. to be with you,  which on some meekest of levels, is exactly right.

“roh. Yes,” he replied dejectedly , breaking eye contact to stare into his soup bowl.

“Good. I’m leaving right away.” Cersei got up and gave Gregor a quick hug and picked up her suitcase, moving to the door. She stopped and turned around to him. “Merry Christmas Gregor.”

Gregor looked up, his eyes swimming, “I... miss. Yuhg”

Cersei smiled sadly and turned, heading out the door for what she suspected would be the last time.
