In What Direction?

Coming into this season, many were curious as to what the Toronto Legion would do. With Greg Clegane coming to the end of his contract, there was uncertainty in the locker room. The veterans were still around, and highly tradeable options as well. The Legion had won three cups in a row, and lost in the finals in the season prior, and it was a question on whether to blow it up and rebuild, or go for it once again.

In the off-season, Sir Gregor Clegane renewed his services with Toronto, and a couple of Hamilton defensemen came on board in Jeff and Phil, so a new competitive team was born once again. The regular trio of Max Molholt, Zach Parechkin, and LeAndre St.Pierre were still around, so you know the offense would surely be there. Especially with the accolades that these players have won in the past. Also loyal and dependable Toronto defenseman World B. Free slid down the depth chart a bit, but remained on the Legion. With the Hamiltons on board, B. Free would not have so much responsibility.

Much of the team are becoming old geezers at this point, but are still major scoring threats despite depreciation. Zach Parechkin is definitely not as active in the practice room as he has been so far throughout his career, but the hours are still there and that's what matters.

At this point of the season, Toronto is 8 points out of a playoff spot, with 63 points, while the New York Americans have 71. Whether the Legion will try to catch the Americans for that last spot, or blow it up at the deadline is something to ponder into the deadline. The Legion's season has been a little up and down, with a lot of positives, but the North American Conference has been a strong one up to this point. Toronto has won 5 in a row, so you would believe they are starting to turn it around, but New York has not been much help to them. The Americans have won 9 of their last 10, destroying any ground to be gained for the blue and white.

If Toronto wants to get into the playoffs, they will have to continue winning and play better against their own conference, which has been a tough one for them so far. They will also have to hope that New York starts to simmer down a little bit, and placing the rest of your season on hope of consistency of your own team, and failure of another is a difficult thing to do.

Up to this mark of the season, at 46 games, the Legion players have definitely been performing, but just not consistent enough. Max Molholt is still a top 10 player, with 66 points in 46 games. Zach Parechkin has 65 in 46 games, and both players have over 30 goals. The Hamiltons have been great as well, with Jeff having 62 points and Phil having 58, more or less making the same impact. Both will surely have over 20 goals soon enough, so they are doing their part as well. St.Pierre also has been solid, with 56 points, and 29 goals, remaining on pace with Max and Zach. But the one thing Toronto lacks right now is depth, and that has likely been their downfall. Although it comes to question, that at this time last season they did not have the forward depth either. The difference from now to last season was that Zach Parechkin, LeAndre St.Pierre and Max Molholt were all performing even greater than they are this time around. They are already playing great, so asking them to score even more is questionable.

Greg Clegane himself isn't having S51 numbers either, but it's not like he's been bad. He has still been playing with All-Star quality, with a .925 save percentage and a goals against average of 1.78. But other goaltenders have been better.

Who knows what the future holds for Toronto? I don't.
