A Change In Perspective

The last season Maximoff was struggling in the regular season, despite putting up more than a point per game, his scoring was way behind Sir William Covington III, Jeff Hamilton and Shawn Muller, the scoring leaders of the Reign. Even Vincent Virtanen, who in quality was deemed a lesser player as Maximoff ended up with a few more points due to his tremendous amount of assists. With 74 points in 72 games he went unnoticed for most of the awards, simply because he just wasn’t good enough. Pietro didn’t really seem to bother, he was living not too far from his homecountry, he had a nice salary and just enjoyed playing. He didn’t seem too worry about it too much, life was more important than hockey after all. In the playoffs however he got a more important role on the team and was one of the players to lead the team to victory. The captain even got a leader of the year award for his presence during the playoffs.

Maximoff's Grimm Jonsson Trophy

But it was not winning that influenced Maximoff to become better. Just before the season he got in touch with a sick child with brain cancer. It was during a weekly event in the Netherlands where Maximoff was visiting. The organization was raising money for a whole different cause, but this kid came to their location to tell them about how he wanted to raise money. He was painting nails from people for 1 euro, and if people refused to do it, they needed to donate 10 euro to the cause. It was a great action and it had a lot of success, because the organization picked him out and invited him over when they found out about him being sick and only having 1 year to life. The kid was only five years old, and even though he didn’t had long to go, he still wanted to contribute in helping others.

Maximoff was so touched by his story, that he contributed as well. He painted his nails and donated 10.000 dollars to the action made by his kis. The original goal was to get 100 dollars, but in the end the kid raised more than 2 million for the cause.

Painted the nails.

To see a kid that age, do such great things, made Maximoff want to power through and finally take hockey more seriously. This sudden shift in motivation has caused him to score 50 goals already over the year. He’s not doing it for himself, but for his newly made five year old friend, in the hope that he enjoys seeing him play in what is likely the last year of his life. As a player you usually do not notice the things that happen around the globe, you are to busy partying or using cocaine with Robbie. But it are these little things, that can change perspective instantly and we hope that the organization will use brain cancer as a cause to raise money for next year, just because of what this little kid do, not for himself, but for others. This selfishness was so touching to see, that it atleast changed the way of life for Pietro Maximoff.
