evrydayimbyfuglien 600
Rodriguez: Moving Forward Seattle Bears D-man, Felipe Rodriguez, is trading in the blue line for the faceoff circle as he makes the transition from defenseman to center as he enters the later stages in his career. Rodriguez joined the VHL in season 47 and will be entering his sixth season in the league, splitting his time between the Quebec City Meute and the Seattle Bears. This move to forward might be the spark he needs to improve his career numbers that have, up to this point, been good but not great. Rookie Season (S48): QUE : 72 GP | 13 G | 30 A | 42 P | -48 | 218 SHT | 3 GWG | 102 PIM | 170 HIT | 189 SB The Meute had a 28-38-6 record this season and missed the playoffs. Rodriguez was fourth on the team in scoring behind Tom Lincoln, rookie Unassisted, and second year blue liner John Sleeman. This also put him in eighth in the rookie points race behind the likes of William Covington III, the aforementioned Unassisted, Vincent Adultman, David Hamilton, Black Velvet, Tyson Kohler, and Vincent Virtanen, some very nice company. He led the team in shots blocked with 189, a number he was never able to eclipse again despite decent growth over the following seasons. Sophomore Season (S49): QUE: 72 GP | 15 G | 26 A | 39 P | +84 | 146 SHT | 6 GWG | 98 PIM | 172 HIT | 96 SB Rodriguez suffered a bit of a sophomore slump seeing most statistics drop but a better squad around him resulted in a league leading 124 points and 60-8-4 record from the Meute. Rodriguez’s +84 rating was good for fourth in the league surrounded by fellow Meute players in the standings. Despite his hard work, minimal gains were made as far as personal performance was concerned. He looked to bounce back in his third season with the Meute as we’ll see below. Season Numero 3 (S50): QUE: 72 GP | 15 G | 35 A | 50 P | +55 | 157 SHT | 1 GWG | 99 PIM | 169 HIT | 94 SB Halfway to the century mark in the league, it seems appropriate that Flip managed a point for each season the league has been in existence. Rodriguez put up a decent point total, just one point off the defensemen leader board for the year. But again, most importantly, the Meute eclipsed the 100-point mark for the second consecutive season and made the post season, something they were unable to do in seasons 47 and 48. Season Four (S51): SEA: 72 GP | 19 G | 43 A | 62 P | +13 | 278 SHT | 2 GWG | 116 PIM | 238 HIT | 116 SB The offseason following season 50 saw Rodriguez dealt to the Seattle Bears as Quebec looked to enter a total rebuild under GM, Frank Chadwick. Rodriguez saw increased point production this season as the Bears’ main thread along the blue line. Third on the team in point production, Rodriguez was also third in hits and fourth in blocked shots for an all around successful year to go with a new career high in points and goals. Season Cinco (S52): SEA: 72 GP |21 G | 48 A | 69 P | +57 | 209 SHT | 5 GWG | 136 PIM | 199 HIT | 85 SB Last season the aging blue liner put up another career year in terms of points and Seattle took another stab at the post season. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the Bears fell just short in the playoffs. Rodriguez finally appeared on the leader board for points for a defenseman coming in at sixth behind big names like Kyanon (who had just joined the Bears for his final season), Jeff and Phil Hamilton, Black Velvet and Titan Kronos. With retirement approaching sooner rather than later, Rodriguez took a long, hard look at his career and has come to a somewhat surprising decision. Next season, Felipe Rodriguez will be moving to the center position manning one of the top two lines for the Bears. Back before playing his first hockey in the Liga Mexicana Elite, he was playing every position on the pitch so playing different positions is something that he’s more than familiar with. This transition will be one that can greatly benefit his team if he can figure out the face off mechanics, of course.
