Corco 1,280
Rudolph Schmeckeldorf Position: Left Wing Height: 6'2" Weight: 190 lbs. Number: 59 Birthplace: Zurich, Switzerland Rudolph Schmeckeldorf is a prototypical offensive forward whose game will most definitely translate well to the VHLM and eventually the VHL. Being a right-handed left-winger allows for Schmeckeldorf to have the option to either pass or shoot when skating with the puck down the wing. His main weaknesses are the defensive aspects of his game, although these can be taught over time, rather than his naturally gifted offensive abilities. Look for Schmeckeldorf to be a mid-late 1st round pick in the upcoming VHL draft; he looks to have top-line upside in the VHL although some scouts doubt this due to the lackluster nature of his agency's last player, Rift Pajodcast. Strengths Passing - Schmeckeldorf is one of the most adept passers in his class, as exemplified by his 10 assists in 8 games at the recent World Junior Championships. Schmeckeldorf possesses a strong hockey sense, often finding passing lanes in seemingly crowded, high-traffic areas. Despite being a forward, Schmeckeldorf is often found behind his own net coordinating the breakout from his own zone with his strong breakout passes; a majority of his assists come from stretch-pass goals. Scoring - Although Schmeckeldorf's main offensive skill is his passing, his scoring touch cannot be ignored either. Despite not owning an overtly fast shot, Schmeckeldorf makes up for that in having a fairly very accurate shot. There are none better than Schmeckeldorf when it comes to finding holes in the goaltender from below the dots. Regardless, Schmeckeldorf would seemingly rather make a pretty pass to set up a goal than score a pretty goal himself. Skating - Plain and simple, Schmeckeldorf has the talent to make it into the first round of the draft on his skating ability alone. With or without the puck, he moves through all three zones with tactical aplomb. Schmeckeldorf possesses explosive straightaway speed, and uses that ability to routinely beat defenders to loose pucks; and once he has the puck on his stick, it is near impossible to take it away from him. Schmeckeldorf also won the fastest skater competition as a 17-year old in his native Switzerland. Weaknesses Defense - Despite all of his offensive prowess, Schmeckeldorf is not exactly a wizard in terms of the defensive aspects of the game; he often looks lost in his own defensive zone and this has lead to goals-off-turnovers more than a few times already. For all of his offensive ability, he lacks that same amount on the defensive side of things. Right now this is the most glaring weakness in Schmeckeldorf's game and could be a reason why his draft stock could possibly fall; if he can improve this area of his game before he reaches the VHL he should be set. Checking - Going hand in hand with his lackluster defensive skills are Schmeckeldorf's terrible checking skills. Scouts have noted that he will sometimes shy away from a puck battle if it means that he is going to be hit, no matter how hard the hit. In accordance with the aforementioned statement, Schmeckeldorf can only be seen throwing a check once in a blue moon, and even then his hits are akin to the hits you take in a pillow fight against your seven year old sister. Strength - Despite weighing 190 lbs., Schmeckeldorf doesn't look like it. He looks to be 160 soaking wet. This isn't a huge issue right now for him playing in the VHLM, but for him to be able to be successful in the VHL, Schmeckeldorf will absolutely to add more muscle to his frame and bulk up before he can be a threat. As long as he sticks to a strict workout regimen, this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
