Senior Admin Will 4,660 Posted February 11, 2017 Senior Admin Share Posted February 11, 2017 Name: John Locke Nationality: USA Position: LW Drafted: 3rd Overall, S53 John Locke burst onto the scene in Season 52 before being drafted in the Season 53 Entry Draft, where was drafted 3rd overall the Stockholm Vikings and almost instantly traded too the Quebec City Meute. Staying down in S53 to play with his minor league team, Ottawa, John Locke has made a real name for himself with an impressive start to the season that currently has him sitting at 46 points in 17 games. Here's his pros and cons. Scoring Without question, Locke's greatest asset on the ice is his shot. Almost to a degree of selfishness, Locke is very much a shoot-first player whose philosophy is that passing imposes needless risk of losing control and therefore he might as well take the best shot he can from his position. Few could get away with operating under such a philosophy but Locke is one who has enough skill to back it up. Defense Given the last paragraph, this one may come as a surprise to you. Despite his offensive style, John Locke is most often the first forward back helping defenders. While not a big hitter, Locke has a very developed poke check which he often uses to steal the puck back quite effectively. Skating No good offensive forward can be a good offensive forward without possessing significant skills on their skates and John Locke is no exception. He's quick, agile, and knows how to use his feet to his advantage. If allowed to gather some speed coming down on a defender, they will have a hard time stopping him. Passing Let's be clear here: John Locke is capable of passing, but generally chooses not to. This is probably frustrating for teammates, and there is no question that this fact will result in some missed opportunities where a pass would have better served that particular play. Don't be fooled by the amount of assists he has, most of those result from rebounds picked up by teammates after his shots. Strength/Checking I could probably summarize this as 'toughness'; the point is, John Locke isn't a great hitter and frankly he doesn't take a hit much better. He's a bit easy to knock off the puck if he gets caught with a hit, something he is surely looking to work on. His reaction to hits could improve too, he's often seen yelling profanity at players who hit him. Substance Abuse Locke is a heavy drinker and smoker of reefer. Mostly drinking vodka orange juice so that he can start with breakfast, at least we need not worry about Locke's Vitamin C levels. Locke's drinking may catch up to him someday and have more of an impact on his career if he doesn't slow down. We don't know if Locke would be a better or worse player without the mary jane, as far as we know he has never played a VHL game where he wasn't lit up brighter than the arena he was playing in.
