VHLM Final Stretch

The VHLM season is quickly coming to a halt, and the playoffs are just around the corner. There have probably been similar articles, but I don't give a shit. I need to write something, and the VHLM team and player race is pretty interesting.

At this point, most teams have around five or six games left, except for, oddly, the Saskatoon Wild with two remaining. Just like earlier in the season, the Las Vegas Aces are far and away the best team in the league. They sit at 57-8-2, holding down 116 points, which is much better than any other. The next best in the VHLM is pretty far behind, being the Saskatoon Wild with 71 points. Funny enough, at second in the league, their record hovers around 50% wins. With a record of 32-31-7, you would think that would not be enough to be right behind the best, and yet it is. The next two teams at third and fourth in the VHLM are the Ottawa Lynx and Oslo Storm, with 65 and 61 points respectively. In the end, there is always a bottom feeding team as well, and this season that is the Yukon Rush. The phrase "Yukon2gud" does not come to mind in Season 54. However, in last place with a record of 23-40-5, they are only 20 points behind Saskatoon in second.

Looking at all of this, there is sure going to be a battle in the post-season with so many similar records. Las Vegas is clearly the big team heading into it, but they are definitely beatable. The question is whether a team can beat them and be consistent at it, with the VHLM's best goaltender Vernon Von Axelberry in net.

Points-wise, the race is on and in a big way for players trying to be at the top in goals and points. Currently, Luigi De Rossi is holding down the top spot with 106 points, with Bo Boeser and Rusty Trombone close behind with 105 and 104 points each. This race heavily favours De Rossi, considering his team has six games left, while Bo Boeser's Wild have two games left, and Trombone's Aces with five. One would think that surely, in a league with many goals, the player with more games left is going to get more points, so it's Luigi's race to lose.

In the goals column, leading the way is Saskatoon's Bo Boeser with 56. Just like the point race, this one is narrow as well. Rusty Trombone has 54 goals, and Luigi De Rossi has 53, so this one will likely go to Rusty or Luigi with more games left.

Over in goalie stats, none other than Vernon Von Axelberry leads the way, and it's not close. His goals against average is 1.60, and the next best is Eddie King's 2.92. Axelberry's save percentage is 91.1%, and the next best in that category is Chet Manley's 90.1%. VVA also has 13 shutouts and 55 wins, both way ahead too, so he will without a doubt win the goaltender award.
