Smarch 3,194
Veteran Corner The VHL regular season has come to a close this past week and with that the VHL playoffs will be starting up very soon. The season seemed to progress very quickly and went as expected for the most part. Now as we sit and await the updates so the league can drop the puck on the post-season, we can’t help but think of the players that will be pulling on a VHL jersey for the last time during the Season Fifty-Four VHL playoffs. In today’s edition of Veteran Corner we will take a look at some of the names that will be hanging up their skates for good at the end of their teams’ playoff run. Tom Lincoln (New York Americans): After spending the maximum of eight years in the VHL, Lincoln’s time to retire in the VHL has come with the Season Fifty-Four campaign. After six straight seasons of 100 plus point campaigns, Lincoln will just be trying to put the cherry on top of a Hall of Fame career with another Continental Cup. Coming off his third season with the Americans that saw Lincoln post fifty-one goals and sixty-fives assists, which sat him third on the roster in points, Lincoln is looking to add to his very impressive playoff resume in an Americans sweater. The Americans will once again enter the playoffs as the second seed in the North American conference after doing the same last year behind Seattle, but with the firepower Lincoln and the offense provide nightly they still can’t be labelled as true underdogs. Time will only tell if Lincoln will go out with a bang, or leave with his already full cupboard of awards and trophies. Sir William Covington III (Helsinki Titans): Covington and the Titans will enter their second playoff run together in Season Fifty-Four, as Covington and the team look to move past the European Conference finals this time around. Covington didn’t have the greatest year in his seven year VHL career, putting up a career low seventy-one points, but a great playoff run could erase all of that. Covington has been a steady center-man for the four different VHL clubs he has suited up for, but has only managed to post more than 100 points once during his seven seasons. Covington will be heavily relied upon as the Titans ready for their playoff battle, and another second round exit won’t be acceptable for either Covington or the Titans. The only question surrounding the Titans as the await their opening round match-up against the Riga Reign is, will the Titans be looking too far ahead and see a few scares from the Reign? Felipe Rodriquez (Quebec Meute): Rodriguez is the last member of the Season Forty-Seven draft class that we will look at in this week’s edition of Veteran Corner. After being traded near the deadline this season back to the franchise that originally drafted him back in that Season Forty-Seven draft, hoping to help the franchise to their second Continental Cup in the franchise’s history. Last time Rodriguez put on a Meute jersey he patrolled the blue-line as a defensive defenseman, but since a position change to try to help the Seattle Bears win a cup, Rodriquez is now a relied upon as a gritty two-way forward. Although Rodriguez had more success this season before he came to Quebec, he helped provide the team with much needed second line depth down the middle, while adding four goals and nine assists in thirty-eight games with the Meute. Although those numbers won’t pop out to anyone going over the statistics sheet, if Rodriguez can adds some timely scoring for the Meute this playoff run, hopefully the Meute can finish off their incredible run this season with a championship.
