The VHL regular season has come to an end, and with it we finally know who will walk away with the individual point’s awards. After seventy-two hard fought games between the ten different VHL clubs and five different VHLM clubs, the playoffs began yesterday with a pair of games being held in each league. Before we get too deep into the post-season, we want to take time to make sure we take a quick look at the league leaders in goals and assists in the VHL and VHLM.

When we last looked at the VHL goal leader only twelve short games ago, Tyson Kohler of the Stockholm Vikings had a short lead over the rest of the VHL. Now after the conclusion of the season, Diana Maxwell sits a top of the goals leaderboard. After putting up sixty-four goals last season that put him in third place, Maxwell was able to escape this season with a six goal lead over Kohler. With the Americans looking to add a third straight Continental Cup this season, the fans in the Big Apple, hope Maxwell can continue his goal pace in the post-season.

Bo Boeser and the Saskatoon Wild finished the regular season on a high note, as the Saskatchewan based club found themselves in second place in the VHLM heading into the playoffs. One thing that Boeser couldn’t take with him into the playoffs was the league lead in goals, after Ottawa’s Luigi De Rossi finished a very strong VHLM campaign leading the VHLM in goals with sixty-two, even though he missed two games on the season. De Rossi was by far the best player for the defending Founders Cup champions, leading the Lynx in points with forty more than the next closest member of the roster.

Bobby Digital grabbed the assist lead early on and never really looked back in Season Fifty-Four. Digital has always been known as a pass first defenseman, but this season he took that persona to a whole new level. Digital put up eight assists to lead the VHL in that category, but he also finished the season with a grand total of eighty points. You read that correct VHL, Bobby Digital went through an entire season without registering a goal, while also taking home the Alexander Beketov for his eight assist performance. Digital has been with the Americans organization for the past six seasons, providing the team with great defense night in and night out, but this season Digital decided it was time to add new career highs in assists and points to his resume. Now with the Americans in the thick of the playoff race, Digital will be leaned upon more than ever being the only defenseman on the Americans playoff roster.

It appears that in both the VHL and VHLM, the players that grabbed on to the assist lead early on in the season aren’t so willing to let it go.  After signing a free agent contract with the Las Vegas Aces during the off-season, Jokinen awarded the team by leading the entire league in assists with his point per game pace of seventy-two in seventy-two games. Jokinen has been around the VHLM for what seems like forever but after only three seasons in the minors, Jokinen decided to go out with a bang. Now with the Aces awaiting their next opponent in the playoffs, Jokinen and the Aces will continue to hit the ice surface in preparation of whoever they will face.
