Down 3-2 heading into Game 6 of the European Conference Final, the Stockholm Vikings will need to win their next two games to keep their hopes of breaking their 27 season streak without a Continental Cup alive.

While it may seem surprising that the Vikings are currently in this predicament given their 66 win regular season performance, there is actually a precedence for this happening. Of the 10 other VHL teams that recorded 60 or more victories in the regular season, only two of those went on to become the Continental Cup champions.

Surprisingly enough, two of those 60 win seasons came in the same season, and neither of them won it! That was Season 10, where the 60 win Seattle were eliminated by the 61 win Legion in the NA Final, only for the Legion to lose to the Riga Reign in the Continental Cup final.

Curiously enough, the Reign have quite the history of eliminating teams that break the 60 win barrier, as they also did it in Season 33 (Helsinki) and Season 40 (Americans). They also eliminated the Legion in Season 51 who had eliminated the 64 win Wranglers earlier on in the playoffs.
