The VHL and VHLM finals are in full swing now as the league awaits a winner so we can begin the much anticipated annual off-season. With this off-season comes the bi-annual VHL World Cup, and with all the rosters now announced the league is looking to hype the event with extra attention through the media. We at Veteran Corner would like to help out the league with putting the limelight this week on veterans that will be suiting up for their respective countries in a few weeks. This week we will look into Team Canada, Team Scandinavia, and Team World, before looking at the other three countries next week.

When Velvet was announced as a member of the Season Fifty-Four VHL World Cup roster for Team Canada, it will be his fourth and final time suiting up in the red and white. Velvet has been a very productive player during his three past tournaments, putting up twenty-three points in thirty round robin games, while adding in nine points during the five elimination games Velvet has taken part in. After helping lead Canada to a gold medal last time around, Velvet will want nothing else but to end his international VHL career with a second one.

Although Axelsson didn’t join the VHL until Season Fifty, the youngster from Vasteras was one of the lucky ones when he was selected while still a VHL draftee to take part in the Season Forty-Eight VHL World Cup. Now as he sits on the verge of his fourth World Cup, Axelsson is looking to bring more offensive with him to the tournament this time around. With only eleven points in thirty World Cup round robin games, Axelsson hopes his career year will lead to greater individual success, but wouldn’t be hurt by another gold medal in sacrifice of personal success. Axelsson will be eligible for a fifth World Cup in another two seasons, something that rarely happens in the VHL.

:vhllogo:Team World (Pietro Maximoff)::vhllogo:

Maximoff is coming off another regrettable end to his season, when the Stockholm Vikings were upset by the underdog Titans in six games. After putting together four consecutive 100 point campaigns in the VHL, Maximoff will be looking to make an impact in the VHL World Cup for the first time. After being selected to the last Team World roster in Season Fifty, Maximoff failed to register a points in the ten round robin games and one elimination game he played for Team World. After another great regular season followed by a sub-par playoff appearance, Maximoff will be looking to quit his critics and the World Cup stage would be a great place to do it. Maximoff could possibly play in a third World Cup after this season, but that will be all up in the air due to when the Romanian native will retire from professional hockey.
