Smarch 3,194
Veteran Corner After a much needed week hiatus, Veteran Corner is coming back to a newsstand near you this week. We are currently at the half-way point in the VHL season and the top teams and players are starting to pull away from the rest of the pack in the league. In today’s edition we’ll do our usual thing and look at the veteran players around the league making their presence felt. Bobby Digital: (New York Americans): Bobby Digital has been an assist machine since joining the VHL back in Season Forty-Nine, but over the past three seasons Digital has taken that to an even bigger level, putting up 215 assists over those three seasons. Digital is looking to cement himself in VHL history before his time in the league comes to an end at the conclusion of Season Fifty-Six, by climbing the all-time assist leaderboard for skaters and defenseman. The numbers that were released before the start of the season has Digital sitting in the top 200 for all-time assists for skaters in the VHL, while sitting in the top 100 of all-time assists for defenseman. After putting up a career high eighty assists last season with the Americans, Digital is back in full force in his seventh VHL season with a second best thirty-eight assists in the league at the half-way point. After winning back to back championship with the Americans, Digital and the team and looking to return to the post-season to bring another cup home before the time expires for the New York core. Fabio Jokinen (Quebec City Meute): That’s right ladies and gentlemen of the VHL, Fabio Jokinen is hitting the Veteran Corner paper for the first time. After having a break-out season in the final year of his rookie contract that saw him put up eight-two points for the Meute during the regular season, and adding nine more during eleven post-season games, Jokinen is no longer a no-name around the league. Obviously big things were expected from Jokinen after being drafted Third Overall in the Season Fifty-Two VHL Entry Draft, but with Jokinen being a quality two-way player you rarely heard his name brought up by those who follow the VHL. Jokinen is currently second in defenseman scoring this season with twelve goals and thirty-three assists in thirty-six games so far. Jokinen and the Meute will be looking to end the season differently than last, so no matter how many point Jokinen ends the season with, he’ll surly trade that in for a Continental Cup win this season. Apollo Skye (Quebec City Meute): Apollo Skye is picking up in Season Fifty-Five right where he left off in Season Fifty-Four. With a Season Fifty-Three MVP award and career highs in almost every category in Season Fifty-Five it is safe to say Skye appears to be in his prime years in the VHL with his high quality of play. After tolling away on a rebuilding Davos club when he first entered the league back in Season Fifty-One, Skye finally found his game when he was traded to an up-incoming Meute team in Season Fifty-Three. Currently Skye has appeared in all thirty-six games for the Meute putting up twenty-eight wins, a .929 save percentage and 1.49 goals against average. Skye will look to continue his stellar play for the remainder of the season and into the playoffs in hopes of taking Quebec back to the Continental Cup finals, hoping to bring the franchise its second cup ever.
