Here we go, the greatest time to be a virtual hockey player is finally here! It´s of course the playoffs time! Some teams have already started their journey towards the cup finals and now we here in Quebec get to do the same when we go against our friendly rivals, New York Americans.

 

New York has played five games in this years playoffs, they won Calgary 4-1. Next step will more than likely be the last for New York. At least if the recent poll done by Quebec Daily News is telling us the truth, they asked from the good people of Quebec how likely it is for New York to beat Meute in the playoffs, 94% said not very likely and 6% walked off without saying anything.

 

 

If you ask me, I think the series will be closer than the poll might suggest. New York has some great players in their lineup, Holik in net with Power as a backup, then Unassisted, Maxwell,Ravenwing, Digital, Shankly and Sharpe to name few. Goes without saying, but we really cant take any penalties and give New York´s powerplay a change to do their magic. They have the scoring power to kill every game on the PP.

 

Biggest weakness for New York has to be their defense, Digital is the leading defender, but after him there is not many players who reach anywhere near that same level of play as Digital, so if we manage to put pressure to Digital, New York might have hard time in getting the puck to their talented forwards up on the ice,  Jelen might get lucky sometimes, but cant really expect him to make similar plays as Digital on a steady pace, so making Digitals life on the ice as hard as possible is the main focus point when it comes down to stopping the scoring threat of New York.

 

That same fairly narrow defensive core is going to be hopefully exploited by our depth in offense, Quebec scored 270 goals in 72 games during regular season, that is the most in the whole league. If Digital and Jelen have huge roles in starting plays for New York, they will have even bigger roles in trying to stop our attacks. Holik might have to make numerous game savers if New York wants to go through to the finals.

 

Same can of course be said about our Apollo Skye, he will have to play on his level if we want to go through to the finals. Unassisted, Ravenwing, Shankly and Maxwell have all scored at least five points in the playoffs so far this year. Maxwell also won the point scoring race in regular season with 114 in 72 games, but Skye has a lot more help than Holik has from the defense, Petenis, Kronos,Komarov and Jokinen make a solid two pairs that can help Skye be on top of his game.

 

Tough to say what will happen in the series, could go any way really, both teams have enough to go through to the finals, but since I live and play in Quebec, Meute is going to win!
