Jeff Gow Destinations - North America

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - After a relatively lackluster VHLM season from an individual perspective, left winger Jeff Gow is set to enter the upcoming Season 57 VHL Entry Draft. For the first time in a while, there is unpredictability in the entire first round of this draft, which is set to showcase both elite talent and high end depth in the first two rounds. While the players obviously have no official say in where they're drafted, they all have preferences. Although there are no teams that Jeff isn't willing to go, each team has its own set of pros and cons.

Calgary Wranglers

For obvious reasons, this is the team most heavily linked with Jeff. There's a family connection with the GM, the Wranglers 1st pick is around where Jeff will be selected (although this is a little more in doubt with their upset of the Legion), and this player agency has a history with the franchise, with 3 different players donning the black and red at some point in their careers. The biggest question though is how much do the Wranglers want him? With the team's future uncertain between rebuilding and continuing to retool, Jeff may not fit in to Calgary's plans going forward and could better benefit the team as trade bait.

New York Americans

The Americans are one of the four teams that have not had a player from this agency on their franchise at one point or another. For personal petty reasons of being from Philadelphia, New York has never been a favored destination, but this would obviously not be a major determining factor in preference. New York is a team on the rise, with five 1st round picks and three 2nd round picks in the next two drafts. It's unlikely that all of these picks are used for players, as some of them will most likely be moved in a trade for a player for some point, but there's no doubt about it that the Americans have the potential to be a force to be reckoned with going forward. The GM has shown to be a successful GM in the past as well.

Quebec City Meute

Although Bernie Gow technically played for the Meute for half a season, he was later traded to the Calgary Wranglers. As of this writing, Quebec is waiting for the results of game 7 for the Continental Cup against the Davos Dynamo. I'm not sure how much longer the Meute have to compete (mainly because I haven't really looked, not an opinion thing), but if they have one or two more seasons left, a cheap rookie winger who focuses on scoring could bring some nice depth to the team. If that's the case, Jeff may not end up in Quebec City long term, but he would have a chance for immediate success.

Seattle Bears

The first "interesting" scenario for Jeff. Seattle has been rebuilding for the past few seasons and have just missed out on making the playoffs, falling behind the Calgary Wranglers by a few points each time. The team has been somewhat unlucky with player development, as some of their most recent draft picks have not panned out or are currently stalling in their development. Jeff could become one of the centerpieces of the franchise. However, unlike some of their rebuilding/retooling competition, the Bears do not have the plethora of draft picks that some of the other teams do. This player agency has no real history with the franchise although two players have played here at some point in time. While Jeff would have no problems playing in Seattle, it admittedly wouldn't be his preferred option.

Toronto Legion

The Legion are another one of the four teams that I have never played for. I have nothing positive or negative against this franchise, as no team that I've been a part of has been involved in a rivalry with them (that I remember at least). This is another team that seems to be on the upswing and they still have a few of their own draft picks left to round out the team. The GM seems to have the team in a position to succeed moving forward, but they'll have to fight off multiple teams trying to make the same jump. With two aging wingers in Ted Doughty and AK47, Jeff could be a good fit in Toronto.

Review

Very nice write up about Gow's destinations. Although we all know he ended up in Davos, I was kind of surprised you fell to 5th. thought you might have went earlier. That is the great thing about drafts though, you never know where you will go.
