It’s no surprise that Yukon Rush forward Matt Thompson picked the team because he wanted to win a founder’s cup. In fact, in recent press conferences he has made that exact fact plainly clear. The Rush are now once step closer to that goal, having swept their way into the Founder’s Cup final without too much of a challenge.

While it is odd that Thompson has yet to score a point for the Rush, he isn’t disheartened. He knew going into the selection of the Rush that it was a stacked team with little ice time available. That hasn’t stopped him from enjoying the run so far though and Thompson is now looking forward to his first Founder’s Cup Final.

“It feels great to be in this position. I know other guys in the locker room have definitely faught harder for it than me but honestly I’m just enjoying the ride. When you come into the league at 18 and join a stacked team like this one it’s interesting to see just how players mesh together in the locker room and on the ice. While I haven’t really done much to help yet, I feel like I’m learning a lot. Who knows, maybe I’m just waiting for my first point to hit the scoreboard when it counts the most. Looking forward to that Cup winning goal I guess. For now I’m just improving as best I can and enjoying the ride."
