Stockholm Thunder ~ 0 Wins ~ 1 Loss ~ 0 Overtime Losses ~ 1 GF ~ 3 GA Jesus: Hamilton Vasteras Toronto Amstel Seattle Calgary Helsinki Stockholm Looking back at the season previews, I found this interesting prediction from none other than Jesus Christ. After the first day he is 100% correct if we go by goals for and goals against. That's pretty crazy if you ask me as our lord and saviour saw into the future to give us this 'prediction'. Now we start on the team's second games on Day 3. Day 3, Game 5: Vasteras IK vs Stockholm Thunder The Vasteras IK had the first back to back game in VHL history when they played the Thunder in Stockholm. They travelled about 1 hour and 14 minutes west to Stockholm after defeating Seattle at home in a shootout. Stockholm on the other hand came all the way from Toronto travelling 3,930 miles. The time difference must have been a killer. They left right after their game finished at 10 PM EST and made it back to Stockholm at around 5 AM Stockholm time. With a day of rest they were hosting their Swedish rival Vasteras. The first period started off with a bang as Stockholm was caught slipping as Jon Clark scored for Vasteras a mere 23 seconds into the game. Other than that one goal Stockholm dominated from that point on out shooting the IK 9-5. Travis Moen may have killed some momentum taking a hooking minor at 8:09 of the first. The second period kicked off with another quick goal by Vasteras. Scotty Campbell gave Vasteras a 2 goal lead at 0:22 seconds of the second period. Dean McIntosh picked up his second assist of the night while Jon Clarke also picked up his second point with an assist. When all seemed lost Marian Oshie of the Thunder scored at 7:08 of the second period to cut the lead to 1. The goal was assisted by Travis Brigley and John Lujibudikoha. Vasteras had also outshot the Thunder 7-5. No penalties were taken in this clean second period. The third period seemed like all was doom and gloom for this home crowd of 15,098. At 6:55 though, everything changed. Johan Lujibudikoha scored with assists going to Guillaume Latendresse and Travis Brigley. That was definitely the pendulum swinging in the other direction as Stockholm picked up their play and played as a team. It also helps they received a powerplay via a Vitali Yachmenev hooking minor at 8:16. With Stockholm pressing to end this game a hero emerged as Tony Amonte scored with 7 seconds left to send this crowd home happy. Chris Julien and Tomas Surovy picked up the assists. Who would have guessed the home team would score 3 unanswered goals? Ookie Mexico picked up his first career win stopping 17 of 19 shots. Matthew Pogge on the other hand a decent game as well, stopping 24 of 27 shots. Stockholm may have won but the Vasteras IK had a clean sweet on the 3 stars with 1st start going to Jon Clarke, 2nd going to Johan Lujibudikoha and 3rd going to Dean McIntosh. Hamilton travelled 4,456 miles to reach this destination. For example when it is 6 PM on Thursday in Amsterdam it is 10 AM Thursday in Calgary. Good thing Hamilton had a couple of days to get there. In the first period a whole lot of nothing happened. Quite literally, only 5 Amstel shots happened as well as 3 Hamilton shots. Other than that few hits took place. What a bland first period. I'm surprised the crowd of 14,978 stuck around for this game after that rather disappointing first period. They were rewarded for sticking around with a goal. At 0:23 Joe Gilman took a hooking minor. However, it was not by the home team as Hamilton scored at 2:49, Joe Gilman returning to the ice from his penalty, rifled a shot home with assists going to Alexei Zhamnov and Anders Eriksson. The home team was getting the majority of the shots so a couple had to go in right? well you guessed it folks, Amstel scored the next goal. At 10:20, Petr Shirokov scored with assists going to JJ Krever and Ondreaj Skokan (I think this might be the one goal so far where no CPU has scored of assisted on it). With the period winding down, it seemed as if this period was going to end in a tie but Andreas Dackell had other plans. Dackell scored at 18:03 of the second period. The third period started with a lot of hits and a lot of battling for possession. Alexei Zhamnov took a hooking minor at 2:52 of the third to send his team on the PK. The Canucks killed the penalty with Jesus Christ making 3 stops to keep his team close. With the momentum coming from the penalty kill the Hamilton Canucks tied the game up at 8:16 with a goal from Alexander Mogilny. The only assist went to Anders Eriksson. After a few other hits and shots this game was going to OT. The overtime period started with the Hamilton Canucks all over the home team as they wanted this win. The overtime period is only 5 minutes so nobody but the Canucks thought this was going to end in OT. With the game ticking down into the final seconds Mr. Alexander Mogilny who tied it up also ended the game as he scored with 3 seconds left in OT. The assists went to Donald Bartch and Alyn McCauley. What an ending to a game which started rather bland. Jesus Christ saved 15 of 17 shots and his counterpart Robert Sharpe stopped 15 of 18. Both played exceptionally but not stellar. First star went to none other than Alexander Mogilny, second went to Anders Eriksson and third went to Andreas Dackell. Doomsday 4,130
Content: 3/3 - Joseph Gilman, there's a name I haven't heard in a while. It's awesome to more or less go back in time to the league's beginnings each week. Are you the History Channel? Grammar: 2/2 - For how many words there are, not too bad. and the each team playing = and each team playing 'prediction'. = 'prediction.' travelled = traveled a clean sweet = a clean sweep right? well you = right? Well you Appearance: 1/1 - Wish the pictures showing the distances traveled would have been bigger, but probably not your fault there. Overall: 6/6 - YUP.
