While Montgomery scored 2 goals in his team's only win in this season VHLM Final's, he saw the star studded Yukon Rush team fail to bring home the s61 Founder's Cup. Montgomery started out as more of a role player, being a mid season acquisition, but by the end of the season was a full on contributor playing out of position as a 2nd line winger, as well as manning the Center spot on the 4th line. When asked for a comment, Montgomery responded by saying he was "dumbfounded, and still processing the loss." Also saying, "I can't believe with guys like Twinger and Silpher we couldn't get more pucks in the back of the net. As someone quickly thrust into a leadership role, being both a Center and the team's rookie GM, Montgomery felt the ever-present pressures of the role starting to get to him.

Now with his first season in the books, he will have to make the decision on whether or not he will return to the Rush, a team that gave him his start, as the TPE leader for the team, and lead a skeleton team towards the playoffs, or jump ship and play for whichever team selects him in the upcoming VHL draft. Montgomery is projected by many as an early 2nd round pick, but some mock drafts have him jumping into the end of the first round. Wherever he goes, Montgomery will need to stay focused, and keep practicing. While winning one for Yukon is very important to him, he understands the importance of helping a VHL team which drafts him find success, and plans on doing whatever is best not only for Yukon, but for whichever team decides to pick him.
