Its been less than 72 hours since Borwinn announced his return to ice hockey. Several of those hours were spent on ice and in the training room. Borwinn has improved in several facets of the game. We do not expect this to slow down any time soon. Borwinn's dedication is hard to miss.

Checking/Strength - Small bump in improvement. Borwinn spent time in the weight room and performed some clean hitting drills. Borwinn has inquired about joining a boxing class. He will never project to be a fighter but he would still like to be able to hold his own and be able to jump in and protect his teammates.

Discipline - Before Julian hits the ice for practice he was seen sitting bench-side, taking in the sights and sounds of the arena. Almost like a Zen aura overcomes him. How does this relate to discipline. Well he certainly has been level headed through all the media attention...This is a hard area to gauge without actual on ice results.

Skating/Puck handling - Borwinn's order of #?? pylons and pucks from Amazon arrived early Friday. Confirmed, Borwinn has Amazon prime. It's a no brainer his edge work is at a high to elite level. His skating and puck handling drills are nothing to shake a stick at. Look for this attribute to continue to improve. Oh and he's fast, scary fast.

Passing/Shooting - Do wrists develop calluses? Borwinn means business whether he is passing or shooting. This is the area of his game that was worked on above and beyond anything else. Hours of shooting, wrist shots, slap shots, snap shots, dump passes, lob passes, passes on the move, off the boards... he's practiced them all. This is the type of player you want on your line, your team, and in your dressing room.

The Draft

Julian Borwinn will be drafted, no doubt about that. Playmakers are the perfect complement to a sniper. We suspect Borwinn to be relied upon on the powerplay as well as holding a defensive roll on the penalty kill. The anticipation is off the charts. He is hungry to play and even hungrier to win. Borwinn may be seen as a sleeper pick by some but this player is on a fast track for success.

Fun Fact

Julian Borwinn is an avid Disc Golfer. During the off season Borwinn travels to a few local towns and takes part in tournaments. Just last month Borwinn finished in a tie for 2nd place at a local league championship event. He is also well known in his home town as the kid who attained 3 aces in the matter of 21 days; a truly impressive feat. The main attributes of a Disc Golfer are strength, accuracy, foot-work and hand eye co-ordination; all skills apparent in his hockey repertoire.
